YOUNGSTA ///

Biography

"If you've heard a Youngsta set you'll know: he's a master of the decks. Twisting, tweaking, scraping his 10' dubplates into a sub-bass assault wave he treads the exhilarating line between implosion and explosion, dark and light, pleasure and pain. Youngsta began DJing at 12, appearing on London garage pirate Freek FM at 13. Now 20, by day he work s in seminal Soho record shop Blackmarket, before trekking back to his home in Essex. By night you can catch him on leading pirate Rinse FM, the station that's home to Plasticman, Wiley and Roll Deep, and that broke Dizzee Rascal. On Rinse he'll be deep in the mix, pulling off jaw-dropping mixes - but never, ever speaking on the mic. Dub step Allstars: Vol.02 Mixed by DJ Youngsta Tempa.cd004 Dubstep is the sound of dark, decaying London. It's the mutant sound of dread dub basslines and dark jungle energy; funky reggae skanks and soaring Detroit melodies fused into a new hybrid. 'Dubstep Allstars' are the definitive scene compilations, the series that actually gave the genre its name. This is Volume 2, mixed by DJ Youngsta, and it's rammed with fresh new riddims and unreleased dubplates. 'Dubstep Allstars Vol.02' follows in the foot steps of it s predecessor, mixed by D J Hatcha. Both compilations are full of upfront and unreleased dubstep anthems, some of the tracks on Vol.0 1 still remain unreleased and exclusive. Upping the game, Youngsta draws a 100% unreleased selection: everything is fresh and brand new for your ears. Through the hour mix you encounter dubs from the biggest producers on the scene, like Loefah, D1, Skream and the mighty Digital Mystikz. It's powerful, enthralling, mystical margin music."

SP:MC ///

Biography

Making the breakthrough into the world of the D&B MC is no small task, yet 30 year-old SP:MC has managed to establish himself as one of the busiest & most innovative on the circuit. He has close ties with Shogun Audio [after touring extensively with DJ Friction], & Emcee Recordings [MC GQ made him resident at his own Emcee Monthly Sessions after hearing one of SP's early mixtapes]. He has also represented for labels as diverse as Renegade Hardware, Commercial Suicide, Hospital, Prototype, Bassbin, Good Looking, Metalheadz, Quarantine, Digital Soundboy, Symmetry, Soul:R, Exit, Autonomic, Innerground, DNAudio, Valve, Tempa & 3024.

Versatility & quality control are a guarantee when SP's in the building. He cites MC GQ, Dynamite & Conrad as early influences. 2003 saw him nominated for 'Best Breakthrough MC' at the Knowledge D&B Awards [alongside Eksman & Armarnni Reign] He was then nominated for 'Best MC' [alongside Eksman & Skibadee] at BBC 1Xtra's XtraBass Awards in March 2007. He was again nominated for 'Best MC' at the D&B Arena Awards in August 2009.

If a diary bulging with gigs wasn't enough, he then started to produce tracks in 2005. Collaborations with Breakage set the standard, followed by tracks with fellow MC Verse . 2008 saw his monstrous dubstep track 'Trust Nobody', released on the infamous Tempa imprint, to widespread acclaim.

More recently, Code 3 [consisting of long time friends SP:MC, Jubei & Dakuan] released their debut 12", 'Delta' and 'Escape Hatch' on Shogun Ltd. 'Payload' also by the trio, followed soon after on Coded Music. Late 2009 saw SP release a follow-up 12" on Tempa . Next to drop is a Code 3 release on dBridge's label Exit Records , which should be landing early March.
