CARBON BASED BIO:
Carbon Based website: http://www.finrg.com/index/artists/carbon_based/
Carbon Based is a hard dance and freeform act from Finland. They started out during the cold winter of 1996 and have been experimenting with different styles of electronica ever since. The group is one of the pioneers of unique Finnish freeform sound often referred to as FINRG. The group includes four members: Toni Eronen, Ari Virtanen, Petteri Kääpä and Teemu Lahtinen. Live PA composition consists of two to four guys depending on the situation.
Carbon Based has released tracks on Max and Amino's Alien Trax, the Mexican's labels Electronic and Electrolysis and Scandinavia's first hard trance label FINRG Recordings, which is actually their own label co-owned by DJ RX. Through FINRG they promote the hi-octane manifesto of Finnish energy in forms of CD, digital and vinyl releases, and most successful FINRG tour parties all over Finland.
'Payback Time' on Alien Trax was their first release on 9/2001. More international attention was gained soon after when 'Illuminate' received the highest score on ever-popular www.generoproject.com. Carbon Based's most anticipated track so far, 'Cyclone', was released on 'Straight outta Finland' EP on Electronic in early 2004. It was voted the 8th best track of 2003 in www.bangingtunes.com public vote, even though it was not even released yet! It was also named as a "best tune of 2003" by Proteus in DJ Magazine. Currently Carbon Based has published or signed over 20 tracks on labels such as Electronics, Nu-Energy, Electrolysis, Electroplates, Finrg, Finrg Hard, Digital Beatz and Teflon Bullet.
Best known for their highly energetic appearances, Carbon Based leaves no one cold when it comes to Live PAs. They have performed in most of Finland's popular events like Säde, Koneisto, Movement, FINRG Tour and Rush. During the last few years Carbon Based has performed in more than 50 events. Their international debut took place in December 2003 in Elation Christmas Carnage, London. In July 2004 Carbon Based did an Australian mini-tour with appearances in Hard Kandy, Melbourne and on the main arena of the massive Winter Enchanted, Adelaide. In addition to the live PAs, DJ gigs are also done on a regular basis by Ari as E-nrg, Toni as Big Mistake and Teemu as Drumhead. Carbon Based has performed with well-known acts such as Proteus, Yoji Biomehanika, Kevin Energy, Paul Glazby, Scott Project, Teebee, Überdruck, Organ Donors, Danny D and Fausto just to mention few.
In 2004 and 2005 Carbon Based was voted 3rd in the artist/producer category of Finnish Club Awards. They hold a residency in Helsinki based high profile club Rush and will appear on first Finnish freeform CD release in the near future.
During year 2006 there will be more international gigs and tours including UK, Holland, and Australia.
PEAKTWINS BIO:
Peaktwins website: http://www.peaktwins.com/
We the Peak Twins are two Finnish trancers, Jussi Tuukkanen and Severi Trendafilov. We first met at the legendary Hype club in Helsinki where we were both having a gig that very same evening. Since then, starting to spend more and more time together in the studio, we eventually came to the conclusion that we should join our musical forces together, so Peak Twins was born. Actually both of us have already spent some time gigging and clubbing in Finland so here's a little insight to our history in the trance/clubscene.
We are guys who "live and breathe" trance, so naturally we started going to parties in the early nineties during the first new wave of electronic sound in Finland. We found this new kind of music so breathtaking that both of us started gathering pieces of hardware synths and effects hoping to one day make songs of our own.
Severi starting in the scene in '94 simply by raving just like any other 18yr old teen would do, but later on he started learning to play synthesizer, and exploring the depths of MIDI-sequencing with Amiga 500 computer. Jussi was also digging deep into the scene early on starting to visit events as a raver in '94 and composing tunes with ATARI computer. In '95 he played his first liveset and by '97 at the age of seventeen he was already organizing his own parties. Jussi ended up organizing some of the biggest Rave-parties Tampere had ever seen, such parties as 'Frequency', 'Unique' and 'Turbulence'-parties to mention some, hosting both international artists and the Finnish cream of talents.
By the year 1998 both of us already had gigs all over Finland and by 2002 we both had played in almost all of the biggest Finnish trance -clubs and parties. Jussi gigging all over the country with his 'DFG' and Severi with his 'Tripguide' act, we appeared in such events as the Koneisto -festivals, Labyrinth 'parties and clubs, House Nation & Vertigo 'parties and many, many more.
Since then, a lot has happened. Jussi has been studying at a Finnish producer school to become an educated and professional music engineer, while Severi made some remixes for domestic artists and teamed up on the HelsinkiVibe studio-collective.
The current project Peaktwins has already released two massive trance-tracks: Hypnowaves and Dreamer. Both were released through finnish Electric Sauna-records. More productions are on the way and the quality will remain high.
GENKI BIO:
An integral part of the Stealth Unit crew in Finland, as well as an A&R person for a finnish label - Exogenic Records - Genki has had his hands in many soups that have been brewing in this deep, cold land in northern Scandinavia. Based in Helsinki, he's been playing music in parties for about 10 years now. He started in the tender age of 17 in warehouse parties playing hard trance and early forms of psy-sounds, pioneering the scene with crews like Smooth Underground and many forest party organizers.
The first years of Genki's life as a Dj were spent in illegal warehouse raves and bush gatherings, and the scene in Finland was quite young and still searching its form. This was the era of mad parties and outlaw action in the finnish capital, Helsinki, and the people going to the parties were die-hard ravers who protested loudly if (and often when) the police came to stop a party in deserted factories, deep northern forests or wherever the organizers managed to pile up a stack of speakers and get a home-made decor up in a couple of hours.
1998 marked as a turning point for Genki when he went for a 6 month trip to Australia and heard the local people playing all kinds of music in the parties there, instead of the generic order of playing just trance or breakbeat etc. in a certain party. This journey also lit his interest in rough drum n bass and dirty breakbeats, which became his main interests after drifting away from the psy/trancescene to the more industrial sounds and harder rhythms a year before. Of course his old fans were horrified of the sudden change, and he had to search for new ground and people who would appreciate the more varied forms of dance music.
Forever the pioneer, Genki has been persistently pushing the hard drum n bass / breakbeat sounds in Finland for the recent years, and now the fruits of the hard work are beginning to be ripe and the finnish clubbers are starting to warm up to this sound. This has demanded a lot of work from especially his colleagues and friends in the Stealth Unit and Freeform-collectives (amongst others), but still they have managed to put up several packed nights of drum n bass and breakbeat in a country where people were certain that trance would be the only viable alternative if you wanted a packed house in your party...
Not wanting to close any style or sound out of the dancefloor, Genki has now turned his head on the progressive house sounds and includes them into his breakbeat/electro sets, creating musical journeys with no genre-defining boundaries. Last year he was selected as the 3rd runner up in the 'Best Finnish Dj' competition, topped only by the evergreen trance/hardhouse Djs who have dominated the list for several years.
The future is always open for this guy, and there is no way of telling what he might be up to next. These past years have taken him and his music from almost every city or town in Finland to countries like France, Sweden, Australia, Latvia, Estonia and Germany. He's had the privilege of playing with such acts as Bad Company, Dom&Roland, Plump Dj's, Wayne Fountain, Darren Price (Underworld), Dj TeeBee, Matrix, Klute and many others.
No genres, no boundaries, just pure, unadulterated music.
GATEWAY BIO:
Gateway website: http://www.djgateway.info
Gateway started playing records in late 2002 inspired by several years of interest in northern Finland's clubbing scene. His records consist mainly from groovy house tracks and euphoric trance tunes, spiced up with progressive/breaks records and sometimes even techno. Gateway likes to combine club hits with more underground tunes in his sets - a combination that is not often heard in northern Finland. Gateway gives a big value to mixingtechnique and progression in his sets. He always builds his set towards more and more uplifting sounds, and acts based on the reactions from partygoers while spinning. He never plans his sets beforehand, his sets are always built real-time behind the decks. There will not be too much 'genrehopping' although he sometimes likes to surprise the crowd with good taste of course.
Gateway's favorite labels include Electronic Elements, Lost Language, Anjunabeats, Subliminal and Defected just to name a few. He usually doesn't buy records by label, he only buys records that suit his taste - this fact guarantees sets that are unique and interesting. Gateway isn't afraid to use classics or tracks that are known to work in parties, but on the contrary he isn't afraid to play only new tracks - usually his sets are a good combination of freshness and familiarity.
In Northern e'Motion Gateway will start the night in the Main Hall with his 2h-set which will build around progressive and broken trance-beats.
SOPPA & REDJACK BIO:
Soppa & Redjack are pioneers in Oulu's young trance scene, they have organized and played in tranceparties since late 1990's. Quality of their mixing-technique is a result from years of experience using their unique mixing equipment. In Soppa & Redjack's sets there are no dull moments, very enjoyable "hands in the air" sounds from the first sounds to the end. Expect only great tracks, beautiful melodies and banging rhythms.
MAX DEE BIO:
MaxDee website: http://www.kompassi.com/fed/maxdee/
Max Dee got in touch with DJ'ing in year 1992, but he has spinned records actively in bars and clubs since 1998. Max Dee's musical taste is very wide, he can play anything from progressive/tech/hard/trance/house, not forgetting the sweetest classics from 90s and especially tracks that include the hypnotizing sound of the TB-303. His favourite labels right now include Electronic Elements, Lost Language, Anjunabeats, Somatic Sense and Fundamental just to name a few. Generally Max Dee likes to play tracks with good solid melodies since he does not feel himself familiar with too monotonous banging. This time Max Dee will play his first peak-time club-gig concentrating around harder trance tracks.
KEN-GURU BIO:
Ken-Guru website: http://www.ken-guru.net/
DJ Ken-Guru started spinning records in clubs already in year 1997. He has played in Oulu's legendary Undergroove club-nights in late 90s, he has also performed twice in "Koneisto" electronic music festival - first time already in year 2000 and the second appearance came in year 2004. He is one of the most known deejays in Northern Finland, several gigs as 'B-eat-z' club resident dj and performances in 'Time Tunnel' parties are a sign of quality and versatility in music he plays. This time DJ Ken-Guru will not have to slow down when he plays, only tight peak-time techno-groove expected!
SEKTORI BIO:
Sektori is without doubt one of the most recognized minimal-techno deejays in Northern Finland. His mixtapes are always extremely nicely constructed and compiled but when this guy plays in a party the BASS is always loose! Ultimate bass-grooves, quality mixing, excellent tracks... what more could you ask for?
SMOK BIO:
Smok is a DJ/producer from Oulu. As a producer he is known from his deep housetracks and as a DJ his sound is very much the same. He started practising his DJ-skills in year 2000 and he had his first gig in year 2002. Smok's sets usually consist from deep and minimal house-sounds, yet always interesting and enjoyable. Smok will play a long set of house delight as the starting deejay in Northern e'Motion Alternative Floor. Now there really is a great reason to arrive early!
