Brazil has taught the world to dance for over four decades now. For three of these decades, a trio of musicians called Azymuth has been one of the most beloved professors of booty shaking to emerge from the South American superpower of music. Jose Roberto Bertrami, Ivan Conti and Alex Malheiros exploded upon the sleepy, post-bossa nova Brazilian music scene. They came out of nowhere and brought with them a healthy dose of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.

Since then they've kept buys mixing their own brew of Afro-Brazilian ecstasy and have done their share in postponing the inevitable day when "dance floor jazz" becomes synonymous with "yuppie shag music". Another brand of wild and woolly musical gangsters will be needed then, and they'll doubtless materialize out of some dingy urban alleyway to rescue us from these future doldrums. For the time being, though, the gentlemen of Azymuth are more than up to the task.

During the last few years, Azymuth have spent a lot of time working with young producers who were inspired by their recordings from 70s and 80s. This list includes such luminaries as Jazzanova, Global Communications, Mark Pritchard, Kenny Dope, Nuspirit Helsinki and 4Hero.

On their last visit to Helsinki, Azymuth was responsible for one of the absolute highpoints of a stellar club year. Or two, rather, since they played an impromptu show at Bundolo on Friday, too, in addition to their scheduled performance on Saturday. There was some serious jamming going on, with people like Neff Irizarry (Mr Gone) and Mamba Assefa (Giant Robot, Nuspirit Helsinki) hitting the stage to take part in the musical feast.

This year, it'll be more of the same. We're pleased to announce that the legendary sax man Eero Koivistoinen has confirmed that he will be playing with the Brazilian trio. Eero Koivistoinen has been one of the foremost jazz musicians in Finland, and possibly the world, since the 1970s. He has recorded everything from the sophisticated and raw rock of Bluessounds to African music with drum troupes to funky, funky jazz. Lately, you may have heard him blowing the walls down on releases by The Five Corners Quintet, this year's must-have for all dance jazz DJs.

The thing is, you never know what's going to happen and when the chemistry on stage reaches a volatile point, boiling over and drenching the audience. The front row better be prepared to get wet in the head, because these guys don't fuck around. It'll be hot and humid, a nice escape from a typically Novemberish Helsinki.

Tätä ei kannata missata. Azymuthin viime keikka oli ehkä parhaita livekeikkoja mitä on tullut kuultua.
