-- Matt Darey has been one of the pioneers of trance since its early days in 1994 and a major influence on the next generation of trance DJ’s and producers. Since 1998 he has sold well over 2 million trance singles and albums and has been responsible for some of the biggest trance remixes and productions including classics such as the hit Lost Tribe - Gamemaster, Binary Finary - 1998, ATB– Till I come, Grace – Not Over Yet, Westbam – Wizards of the Sonic, Gabriel – Rise... The list is endless.Matt has been headlining the massively successful Euphoria series for 5 years and has had many UK chart hits including the top ten smash “Beautiful” and “Liberation (Fly like an Angel)”. Mad Mansion: Have you played out this week and any major trips upcoming?

Matt Darey: Just got back from a tour of Australia to promote my new "Ultimate" mix album out there....It was a blast as usual. Next big event for me is the DECADE Album & Darey Products label launch Party in London on the 19th Dec. Im releasing the album to celebrate ten years of making trance...and sort of 10 years since its birth into clubland. Gonna be a hell of a party!!!

Mad Mansion: Anything exciting coming up on the global calendar that you know about?

Matt: Loads on the horizon for me as I made a decision to make a series of exclusive mix albums for each country that I have toured since I began Djing. Each album is gonna be unique and individual and gives me a great excuse to tour the globe. I'm now working on an exclusive album for America which will be released in sync with my USA tour in March 2005...Im also hoping to come to Canada on the tour.

Mad Mansion: Are there any new names, new faces coming through on the DJ circuit in your country at the moment?

Matt: One guy to watch out for is Adam White, He had a couple of club hits with Reverence and White room in the last 6 months...I met him out in Ibiza and he ended up helping A&R for Euphoria Albums. He just made a new track called Ballerina which I had to have, so I signed it to my new label Darey Products

Mad Mansion: How things are going with your own label Mash Up Tunes? Or is it Darey Products after all?

Matt: Yeh, long story...one of my friends Tony McGuiness was working for Warner Bros as a marketing exec...he's been trying to persuade me to start a label called Darey Products for years. I was gonna call it Mash Up Tunes as I used the alias Mash Up Matt for remixing.......I even went as far as pressing all the records and labels for Mash Up Tunes....I was talking to Tony on his Above and Beyond Show and he finally persuaded me at the last min to change the name.........He said with a name like that , you've gotta milk it!!!

Mad Mansion: More and more we see producers setting up their own labels - do you think that will be the trend for the future?

Matt: The industry has been turned upside down in the last 3 years, vinyl sales are at rock bottom but Downloads are sky rocketing, I think a lot of labels were taken by surprise and went under like Hooj Choons. Everyone I know just wants to take control of their own music again. Its exciting times really and when people stop the download piracy the whole scene will be firing all cylinders again...we're all in a bit of a void at the moment.

Mad Mansion: Your first true artist cd is getting a December release. That must be extremely exciting. Can you tell us a bit about the concept and what prompted you to do this cd now?


Matt: Yeh, it's a decade since my first record caught the attention af DJ's and around the same time there were a few other producers making the same style of music which then became known as trance. Its kind of a double celebration for me....10 years since the birth of Trance and ten years of making tunes.


Mad Mansion: The cd launch party is at The Fridge club in London- even though you have played out many many times, does this particular night get you just a little bit nervous?


Matt: No, im just excited to be throwing such a big party.......and no doubt the after party will be one to remember!!


Mad Mansion: In addition to the Decades cd you have just got a slot on Ministry Of Sound radio - tell us a bit about how that came about and what listeners can expect to hear when they tune in.


Matt: Ministry have been asking me to do a show for a while now and since I've been mixing Euphoria albums for 5 years now we decided to call it "Euphoria". The music is obviously more reflective of my own personal taste rather than what you would hear on a Euphoria album...kind of more reflective of my DJ sets so expect to hear all the latest trance with a distinctive UK flavour


Mad Mansion: Any predictions for 2005? Anywhere you think the dance scene is really going to explode?


Matt: I think Globally the whole scene has really picked up this last 12 months and theres loads of new up and coming talent to inject

Mad Mansion: January gigs will be the first time for you in Finland. What do you expect?


Matt: I've never been so far north before in my whole life. And i've heard a lot of good things about Finland, so i really look forward to it!


Mad Mansion: For the Finnish clubbers out there that may not know that much about you where can they log onto find out more about Matt Darey the producer and where can they purchase the Decades cd?

Matt: Decade is an exclusive release on my new label and is only available from www.dareyproducts.co.uk along with all other releases on the Darey Products label.


Mad Mansion: Where have you been recently DJ wise? Whats been the most craziest experience?


Matt: I've just finished a tour of Australia and I'm heading off to the States to lay the foundations for the forthcoming album tour in March........as for the most crazy experience............I couldn't really disclose that.
Mad Mansion: With Decade obviously being 10 years in the making, what is next on your plate as far as production output?

Matt: In March 2005 I will be releasing my first ever album specifically for US and Canada which will be a collection of the latest upfront Trance tracks and reflective of what Im currently playing in my sets around the globe. I'll also be touring with the album so keep an eye out on the forum at www.dareyproducts.co.uk for tour dates.


Mad Mansion: Where do you see the whole dance music scene heading? Everyone has their own way of seeing it, whats yours?


Matt: I think we're in the midst of really exciting times where many producers are taking control of there own music with the advent of download culture. I see the quality of dance music rising as a consequence and loads of fresh talent entering the scene. This is ultimately gonna breath new life in to dance music so expect some good times ahead for trance lovers.


Mad Mansion: Who do you listen to or respect a lot in the genre of music that you do? The trance scene in generally seems like quite a close knit group with everybody knowing everyone.


Matt: It is a really close community, we all keep each other posted with what we're up to, throw around new ideas about the way the scene is going etc. I'ts not that often that we meet up in person as most of us are always traveling .....more of an email relationship really...
