DJ Soma has just joined party-promoting group Wider Visions and many things have started to grow... keep in touch for latest updates and happenings.... website and other info coming soon.
"DJ:nä soitan etupäässä rytmikästä, hyväntuulista kuuntelumusiikkia, mutta myös vauhdikkaampaa tanssimusiikkia löytyy, hyvällä maulla valittuna. Suuri osa musiikistani liikkuu mainstreamin rajoilla, ollen samalla tyylikästä ja innovatiivista, mutta silti helposti avautuvaa ja innolla vastaanotettavaa suuremmallekin yleisölle musiikillisesti kaikkiruokaisia ihmisiä."
Biography
DJ Soma is no newcomer in the electronic music scene. He's been listening to it for over 10 years, starting from early trance, hardtrance, goa, rave, happy rave, ambient and intelligent techno. Later on he moved to more commercial worlds of german/dutch clubtrance (or kiksu) and even hardhouse. In the turn of millennium he had his house/nujazz/downtempo period, and he was part of party-organizing collective Skyhouse, which held a few deep-/latinhouse parties at Kerma, Mother's, Kaivopuisto and Uunisaari. In the parties he played jazzy downtempo grooves under the name Cheeba.
After his first trip to Goa in January 2000 and his first psytrance-festival experience later that year in Boom 2000, he got re-connected to more psychedelic part of himself, slowly moving away from rather simple house and easy-to-swallow clubtrance to progressive house and psychedelic trance/ambient. After moving away from his childhood house to an own home with fast internet connection, he began to really explore different sounds with Napster. On a winter 2000/2001 he went to Thailand's Koh Phangan to experience mindless yaba-enriched New Year/Fullmoon/Blackmoon parties and magic mushroom milkshakes. Later that summer he was taking back what he had missed and downloaded dozens of psytrance albums from Audiogalaxy, starting from post goa classics to more minimal sounds that were starting to evolve then. He also enjoyed finnish talents like Texas Faggott and Haltya, finding himself dancing in their gigs faster than ever before.
Again, after his trip to North India, Nepal, Thailand and Malaysia in the beginning of 2002 and having his reiki-initiation and introduction to meditation in a healing-center on the beach on Koh Phangan, he was drawn to more progressive psytrance and deeper into progressive uk house. Winter 2002/2003 was a very long and painful one for him for he had just separated from his girlfriend after suffering together in Boom 2002 and had to cope alone with all the shit that almost daily meditation had kept on bringing out, so he began to concentrate more on the chiller part of musical world and was downloading dozens of those albums from Soulseek.
Now, in 2004, he has reduced his once 1500+ cd-collection into somewhat more comphrehensible amount of about 200 carefully selected and loved, mostly original (which means not copied) cds containg the essence of his musical journey so far, ranging from deep ambient to sun-soaked downtempo grooves, from epic psychedelic ambient to ethno-electronic excursions, from spiritually evoking sky-dance jamming to carefree lounge tapestry and from hypnotic progressive house to banging progressive psychedelic trance. He feels that buying an excellent record is least he can do to thank the artist for providing such a wonderful entertainment to him and the rest of the world that cares.

Some words I wanted to share about the music I play...
I play mostly music for your hearts, more emotional than intellectual, music that doesn't make you ponder about things but music that makes you feel the frequencies in your body and prepares your mind for sudden intuition and inspiration. As you listen deeply, fully surrounded by music, allowing the music to penetrate inside you, you may experience tingeling sensation on your forehead or other parts of your body, feeling that gives you pleasure. Whenever you feel this, just let it happen and concentrate on the feeling, let it take control over you and let your senses be shaken.
You may feel the music exciting, original, fresh, timeless, surprising, entertaining, euphoric and/or relaxing. The music I play is made with beautiful intention, it can penetrate through the physical body to the higher vibrations of the self as the power of sound can be felt in two dimensions, physical and ethereal. So close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and make yourself comfortably as you drift into your inner paradise.
Feel for yourself!
