TUOMAS 'DOPESKI' SALMELA - 2020 Vision, Guidance
Tuomas Salmela has released a number of records on such legendary labels as Chicago's Guidance, UK's 2020 Vision, Moodmusic and the Sähkö sublabel Keys Of Life. The wide musical range from the soothing soulful vibes of "The Piece" to the dark and atmospheric floor monsters of his Phonogenic project and his now classic remix of David Duriez' "Warmth" have provided him with huge support from the industry's key figures across the board.
2003 has seen Tuomas bring another clubstorming single under the Phonogenic guise as well as a deepfunk workout "Air Moves" on the superb underground imprint Moodmusic which will also release a Tuomas Salmela remix pack of DSE's "Sounds for Your Soul" latenighter and has recently completed the 2020 Vision theme song. Somewhat of a child prodigy when discovered by Ralph Lawson at 2020, Tuomas' lush and complex compositions and remixes encompass everything from deep, jazzy house workouts and melodic techno anthems to tweaked out electro styles.
Originally from the concrete Alppila hoods of Oulu, Finland, Tuomas is known as half of the cult electro outfit Fancy Robots, a project reserved for, in T's words, "the dopest electronic shit around" and as is a young pimp in the celebrated boy band duo Step Time Orchestra with fellow pimp Jori Hulkonnen. Clearly influenced by Depeche Mode, you can find STO on Stickman or EMI Finland or Lumi - if you are lucky!
Other influences include Prince and Marvin Gaye both of whom are clearly where T's soulful roots came from. Proximity to the Swedish airwaves allowed access to the Chicago and Detroit sounds of the 80s projects.
