[ABCD05] Karri O.: Kids Used to Dream of Becoming Astronauts

This five-track EP from Karri O. is a sincere attempt to render digital sounds as organic as possible. With echoes of influences ranging from minimal German techno to Rhythm & Sound to Warp, the end result is a danceable experiment that is nostalgic without being melancholy, innocent without being naïve. It is also Karri's first solo recording since he traded in his decks for a laptop after over a decade of deejaying. Watch for more releases on various labels soon.

Kids Used to Dream of Becoming Astronauts comes with a deceivingly simple two-player computer game called Robotit for Windows machines. Use the money you earn to make your robot more and more powerful as the game progresses and then try to beat your friends. Original music for the game provided by Karri O.

The CD is now available through the Abflug website and soon through several distributors and record stores throughout Europe, Canada, and Australia. In Finland, the CD is already available at Voltti in Tampere and at Dis'n'dat, Myymälä2 and Lifesaver in Helsinki. Please visit http://www.abflugrec.com for more information and sound samples.

Abflug is a Helsinki, Finland-based label dedicated to electronic music and video arts founded in the spring of 2003. The aural criteria for Abflug releases ranges from downbeat to crunchbeat to deep techno.

'Beyond the enticing concept Abflug has produced three very nice albums, all techno-ish but eschewing dependence on beats and nodding agreeably towards ambience.'

The Chilean magazine Loop, http://www.loop.cl/, has published a review of Karri O. - Kids Used to Dream of Becoming Astronauts:

You can read it in both Spanish and English at the following link:
http://www.loop.cl/comentarios.asp?cod=79321051141149775

"His electronic facet drinks of waters of Autechre and the Warp sound which is exemplified in his first cut 'Before'; with its timbres through keyboard notes and fractured rhythm. 'One to finger. Two feet' shows its minimal house face with a hypnotic groove. 'Subconscious dub' has powerful bassdrums whose rhythmical techno takes us to a trance mood. The final cut 'No more Mondays' it has a gorgeous melody line with its bells like keyboard notes."
