PANAMA: ONE OF AMSTERDAM'S FINEST
The Panama nightclub in Amsterdam is one of the best venues of its kind in the city and will embrace the true international flavour of the Amsterdam Dance Event with four nights of forward thinking music. From this Wednesday until Sunday, the club will showcase some of the most coveted names in dance music today.
After months of preparation and over 18 months of good practice running the Amsterdam club Mazzo, the creative directors of Panama are set to see their musical dream shape up even better at their new venue. One of them, Rene Vidal, had this to say:
"Amsterdam needs a quality venue next to the Melkweg and Paradiso and our goals are even to take it a step further. Amsterdam has never had a Fabric or a Twilo or a Cocoon nightclub that is really focussing on music. Besides that Panama has so much more to offer, providing an excellent restaurant, theatre, studio and bar all under the same roof. Looking ahead from a creative point of view, we thought now really is the time to do this, so we stepped in. We are certainly not there yet, but with the ADE program and great events like the Sander Kleinenberg show and the Danny Howells event recently it shows the public is ready for type of music now."
As Xpander reported earlier in the week, the Amsterdam Dance Event will see the city become the temporary capital of electronic music. Almost every club and venue will pull out all the stops and Panama is no exception. In a four-day period, Panama and their hosts managed to book 30 DJ's from seven different countries.
The club's agenda has even been extended to include an extra night on Wednesday 20th October before the conference officially kicks off. James Holden's Border Community label will join forces with Scottish label Soma, home to Slam, and Silicon Soul, to kick off the proceedings together with Club Exposure from The Hague. Acts headlining the night are James Holden, Slam, Silicone Soul, Nathan Fake, Fred Numf and Sweden's Petter.
On Thursday, top UK house label Defected will host their night in conjunction with Club Risk and Hardsoul with Sandy Riviera, Simon Dunmore and Dutch star Roog. This party was seen as one of the best of ADE 2003! Friday sees a rare European appearance by Josh Wink and King Britt supported by Funk d'Void (live), Gene Farris Nick-K and many more. This big night is in co-operation with Extrema Music and Elite Music Management.
The madness is rounded off in heavyweight style by Deep Dish with supporting acts 16 Bit Lolita's and Stef, Behrouz and Nic Fanciulli on Saturday - this party was sold out two weeks in advance!
With the city of Amsterdam being the focus of international dance music, Panama will make sure that the launch of their new era in Amsterdam gets off to a flyer. Let's see what they have in store for Amsterdam clubbers over the coming months and if they can maintain the quality programming. [Editor's note: The November diary already has Timo Maas, DJ Sneak & Michel de Hey]
One thing is certain, make sure you come in early as limited tickets are available. The closing night with Yoshitoshi is a sellout and even ADE Badge holders will have very limited entrance on the night.
