Kadonneen ARPin metsästäjä

ARP Instruments loi ensimmäisen syntetisaattorinsa vuonna 1970.
Syntetisaattoreita jaettiin levyttäville artisteille ilmaiseksi, sillä
näkyvyys keikoilla ja musiikkilehdistössä oli tärkeää. Yhtiön päättömät
hankkeet ja epätoivoinen yritys luoda maailman ensimmäistä
kitarasyntetisaattoria pakottivat ARP Instrumentsin kuitenkin laittamaan
pillit pussiin vuonna 1981.

Kuluneen 11 vuoden aikana analogisten ARPien pörinä oli kuitenkin jättänyt
jälkensä mm. George Clintonin, Herbie Hancockin ja Stevie Wonderin levyille.
Näiden artistien levyjä kuunnellessa varttui italialainen Mario Pierro.
Vuonna 2001 Mario alkoi julkaista musiikkia nimellä Raiders Of The Lost Arp,
jonka vaikutteet ovat detroit-teknon lisäksi nimenomaan jazzissa ja
funkissa.

Raiderd Of The Lost ARPin viime vuonna julkaistu Tema5-albumi sisältää
oivaltavia melodioita ja mahtipontisia sointuja. Näillä eväillä ROTLA on
kiertänyt keikoilla Rooman Brancaleonesta, Lontoon Fabric-klubin kautta
Berliinin Panorama Bariin. Maaliskuun 5. päivä Raiders Of The Lost Arpia
kuullaan live-keikalla Kuudennessa Linjassa.

Questions and answers with Raiders of The Lost ARP

Q: Who are your idols? Who inspired you the most? Whose gig has stayed in your mind for years?

A: I have always been influenced mostly by funk and jazz music, so people like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Parliament should be considered as "my idols". Add a lot of electronic dance music to that (Underground Resistance, Aphex Twin, Autechre, LFO, Boards of Canada, Mr Fingers, just to name a few) and a lot of italo dance stuff...

A gig I still remember has been a Parliament concert in Rome which has been simply amazing, some years ago... Pure controlled funk chaos with some 10 people jamming on stage, including roadies.

Q: How would you describe the scene in Rome? How it has changed over the years and what do you think of it nowadays?

I am not living in Rome anymore since a year, so I don't know about recent developments. There has never been "a scene" in Rome, rather there are several movements which are mostly unconnected, some of which I like and respect (MinimalRome and Truckstop76 labels as an
example).

Our Finalfrontier/Nature/Pigna records thing has been there from the beginning, when labels like Sounds Never Seen where founded, and it is still there... Marco Passarani should take the credit for having founded Nature in the 90s and having kept it going in good and bad times.

Q: You have chosen to play live-sets instead of deejaying, why is that?

Because I am not a DJ, and I don't know how to express myself using turntables. I tried deejaying with a laptop for a while, but eventually I was spending more time editing the tracks than making new ones. I love to improvise as much as I can, creating new music on the fly and especially for the night...

Q: What is your favourite pizza like?

Margherita, but Neapolitan-style with buffalo mozzarella. You can eat that in Rome too, there are pretty good Naples-style restaurants out there....
