Tonight's Radio Unity has a definite summery vibe going on. There is some amazing progressive trance around at the moment and there were lots of great tracks to choose from.
Artists like Henry Saiz, Eelke Kleijn, Funkagenda and Protoculture have cemented their place in the current world map of electronic dance music and are coming up with the goods almost every month. Andy Moor and Way Out West represent more veteran producers. There are two fresh remixes of classics: a wicked prog trance version of Sasha & Emerson's 2000 classic 'Scorchio' and a progressive psytrance version of Binary Finary's '1998'.
Finnish trance sound is represented by myself and the always-so-reliable Allende. I'm happy that I can finally play my breakz trance remix of Alex MORPH's 'Purple Audio' which was recently released on Paul van Dyk's Vandit label. The mix has been ready well over a year but has been waiting for airplay to ensure freshness when released. I'll be joining the chat at the Afterhours.fm forum and hope you'll join some likeminded music lovers too.

"Todays Radio Unity is slightly more uplifting than what Ive been playing during the last months.Still firmly in the space of progressive trance but with couple more uplifting goodies included and also the more proggy stuff is this time clearly four-to-the-floor material instead of more atmospheric stuff. Included is the title track from Solarstones forthcoming beautiful Touchstone album, somewhat exclusive first play of an amazing new Allende bootleg and premier of me and Solarstone collaborating again (after the 2008 collab Slowmotion). "Summer time - is a big tune time! The music of July episode of Radio Unity is delivered by quite a few of my all time musical heroes: Sasha, BT, Kleinenberg, Prydz and Vibrasphere to name a few. Even if July is also time for the big summer festivals don't be afraid - this won't be filled with the arena mega anthems but with (in my humble opinion) the best progressive house and prog trance around at the moment. Quite a few vocal tracks of this episode keep the smell of cheddar lurking around the corner though but lets not be THAT serious and lets just enjoy the great vocal and lyrical deliveries of these brightly creative people. I'm enjoying an offline holiday (highly recommended to everyone!) at the moment so unfortunately I won't be joining the discussion at the Afterhours.fm board this time:( The NRJ at the Club radio show is also on a pause until October so there won't be Radio Unity mix on NRJ this Saturday."

What is a recipe for putting together a monthly Radio Unity show? Here are the commonly used incredients. Surely chef sometimes use some special spices but these are most common ones:
-One month of intensive music hunting for new tracks. This includes for example going through promos from labels, listening to hundreds of new releases in web shops, checking fellow DJs charts, playlists, radio shows, live mixes & podcasts and of course trainspotting some bombs at clubs.
-Figuring out the approximately ten tracks to be included from tens of candidates and their order.
-Checking the harmonic key of the tracks with Mixed in Key software.
-Selecting opening and closing tracks as they are often the most important ones.
-Putting together the arrangement in Ableton Live software.
-Pitch shifting (with Ableton) some of the tracks to fit harmonically.
-Re-editing some of the tracks so the mix flows better and fits nicely to the 60 minutes.
-Mixing the tracks live using Korg microKONTROL and Abletons filters and effects.
-Exporting the finished mix to a full resolution .aiff audio file.
-Mastering that file in Logic software with plug-ins to balance the overall levels.
-Converting the final mix to an MP3 file and uploading that to Afterhours.fm server.
So that is the creative journey taken every month, resulting in a one hour mix of latest progressive trance. Sometimes it all comes together easily, sometimes there can be two competing totally different kind of collections while sometime it feels there are double the amount of amazing tracks I could fit. Ive been doing this since 1998 and still love it every month!. Tonight we'll listen to some aural goodies from the likes of Underworld, Eric Prydz, Jerome Isma-ae, Protoculture, Eelke Klein, Marcus Schulz. Come and join the vibe at AH.FM forum.

"For the last two years Radio Unity mixes have been built very much around similar type of music: progressive house and progressive trance. Even if I collect, love and play all sorts of electronic music I've wanted to focus to certain style with the show. Last month there were some requests to do something slightly different (thanks Jamey!) so I was planning a label, genre, classics or producer special but ended up doing something a bit more advanced... I could say that this month's Radio Unity is the most eclectic mix I've ever done. It's filled with tracks that I absolutely love, but which I haven't been able to fit into any mixes because they are so "different".
So I decided to put together a mix combined from only those sort of tracks. Genres range from downtempo, atmospheric electronica, indie dance and dubstep to nu skool breakz and drum'n'bass with tempos varying from 104bpm to 175bpm. None of the music is probably classified as "trance" yet there is a distinctively trancey vibe through out the mix. It's all production wise futuristic and super emotional music and if there ever was a "journey" mix from me - then this would be it. Surely not everyone will like it but I sincerely hope you'll reserve one hour of peaceful time, good sound system and an open mind to see where music will take you.
Unfortunately I am travelling from London to Helsinki right at the time of the Afterhours.fm broadcast so I can't attend the live chat on AH.FM forum but please let me know what you think of the mix."

Radio Unity today (20.10.2010) will be in the more pumping party end of my musical spectrum. The show has lately been more and more towards “listening” type of sets rather than what I play out when I’m headlining. But October’s set is definitely a reflection of the kind of groove that I’m into currently with my big room sets. Present are masters of main room progressive like Moguai and Sultan, techy beats from Umek and more trancey stuff from Michael Woods, Protoculture and myself.
