Lil Tony - Cosmic City EP (Versatile 059)

Lil' Tony is a veteran DJ of the Helsinki club scene & also behind those Future Beat Investigators. However, he does not limit himself just to that incorporating Disco, Afro and Cosmic or Balearic sounds in the mix. Cosmic Afro Pan kicks of strong with a heavy rhythm and a huge flanged bassline, which is the hook of the track. The groove evolves constantly as the bass modulates around it. The track peaks towards the end as some little acid noises add on before the other elements get diluted as it winds down. Cosmic Afro Dub, again the name speaks for itself as it is a dubbed out version of the previous track. On the first version the accent is on the low synthetic bass, whilst here Lil' Tony focuses more on the piano keys and the evolution of the beat. A great mixture of Detroit techno and the old cosmic sound.
