Northern e'Motion is huge this year! There will be only one dancefloor but it certainly will be better than ever. We have invited Swedish progressive trance-star David West to headline our 2007 Northern e'Motion event. David has managed to produce some of the most successful progressive trance tunes in 2005/2006 like 'Larry Mountains 54', 'Suffering Island' and 'Make U Mine' along with excellent remixes from 'Inkfish vs. Martin H - Eye Am', 'Dominic Plaza - Sounds Rushing' and 'Tilt - New Day'. David is also well known from his projects like Synergy (Hello Strings), Audioholics (External Key) and Antiloop (Only U, In My Mind etc.). David is currently one of the hottest DJs and producers in the world and bringing him to spin in Northern e'Motion is a true cultural milestone for Oulu's clubbing nightlife. Just when you thought this couldn't get any better, we are proud to introduce the best possible warmup-dj you can imagine, DJ Orion from Helsinki. Orion has quickly gained support in Helsinki where he moved from Rovaniemi in the late summer of 2006. We all know that this guy has potential to become something big, he will show his flexibility and talent during his long warm-up set. This is a party that no-one should miss. Although David West might be a new name to many of you he has been around for a very long time. He began his musical journey at the age of 2 when his father, who is a musician himself, put him behind the black and white keys of the piano. David was taught by his father until the age of 6, then it was time for some serious classical training. By the age of 7 David had his first meeting with a synthesizer, and he immediately fell in love with the weird sounds that came out of it. Two years later he got a porta-studio (a 4-channel tape recorder) and started producing his own music, and from there he went to working with computers such as C-64, AMIGA and ATARI.
His professional career started back in 1994 when he teamed up with Robin Söderman and formed Antiloop. The band is a household name in the Scandinavian club circuits and following the success of their debut album, "LP", the name spread fast across the global underground network with cuts such as "In My Mind", Beauty and the Beast and "Trespasser" fast becoming techno classics and crossing over in numerous European territories. Most of the Antiloop singles have positioned themselves at the #1 spot in the Scandinavian dance charts. Two Grammy awards (Best Club/Dance Album 1998 LP) (Best Club/Dance Album 2001 Fastlane People), six Swedish Dance Music awards, numerous gold and platinum records is proof that Antiloop has made a huge impact on the scene.
The first release from David West on his own was Envy/Carrier. It was licensed to Way Out West´s album Don´t look now. The track "Larry mountains 54" became one of the biggest progressive trance hits of 2005, made it to all the big compilations and was announced one of the biggest tracks of 2005 at Armin Van Buuren's show, a state of trance. His remixes has been hammered by all the big names. Last year he remixed acts as Tilt, Shiloh, Matt Darey, Inkfish Vs Martin H, Dominic Plaza, Carrie Skipper to name a few. The latest songs to be released by David is Suffering Island and Make U Mine. Both tracks have already received a warm welcome from all the big names.
David has a lot going on working under many different aliases. As De Nada, David and Andreas Hermansson have created tribal-tinged stuff for labels like Barry Gilbeys Choo Choo and Chus & Ceballos Stereo. The De Nada remix of Martin H´s Over was #1 on DJ Chus´s chart for several weeks amongst others. As Inkfish vs David West, they work with Greed´s SOG-label. The first release Aftermath got massive support from Dj´s like Paul Van Dyk and Marco V to name a few. As Synergy, they have taken their more progressive as well as melodic influences to another planet. Pacifier was the first track to be released. With plays from almost everybody worth mentioning it quickly became a huge success. The follow up release Hello Strings became one of the biggest progressive tracks of 2004. As Audioholics, David teams up with the young talent Özgür Can. The first track from this duo External Key was featured on many compilations by artists such as Gabriel and Dresden and Armin Van Buuren.
Setting up his own label, Aid Recordings, with help from Andy Moor is the project closest to his heart at the moment. Already signing big names and some of the most promising undiscovered artists the world has to offer Aid Recordings is looking to a very bright future.

Before settling down to the capital of Finland, Helsinki, in autumn 2006, Orion has already been involved in electronic music culture for far over a decade. Starting in the early nineties in the industrial city of Tampere, where rave culture was at its peak, the spirit of illegal raves and warehouse parties formed the ground on which he still stands. While living over five years in Rovaniemi, just a stone's throw from the Arctic Circle, Orion has influenced strongly the electronic music culture of the north. As one of the key figures of the northern club scene he has hosted, promoted and produced countless club nights, events and DJ-based concerts all over Northern Finland and tirelessly pushed forward the culture and the music as a DJ and a promoter. At the moment Orion works in the staff of Misc Management which is the first truly professional dance music oriented DJ booking agency in Finland.
GIGS & CAREER
During his DJ-career, Orion has made his way to perform in many of the biggest domestic parties with countless number of Finnish and foreign artists, live-acts and DJs. He has been performing at Koneisto, the biggest electronic music festival in Northern Europe, Hallmark, the biggest regular club in Skandinavia and Time Tunnel, one of the oldest and most respected annual events in Finland - to mention a few. Orion has also been the musical representative of PR-events for several corporations like Mini Cooper and Philip Morris and headlined clubs outside Finland for example in Kostamus (Russia) and Augsburg and Kempten (Germany). Today Orion is still one of the busiest DJs/promoters in Finland.
THE SOUND
As a DJ Orion loves to blend styles and genres - to build the set up with house & trance vibes and vitalize it with breakbeat and techno. On the era of digital music, he doesn't just rely on the easiness of latest MP3-releases: "I love to use my music collection on a wide scale, not just the records I've bought in the past two months. Forgotten classics, old vinyl gems, they are all there - combining that old sound with the fresh releases has really proved its power on the dancefloor. That's what electronic music is at its best - timeless." Residencies at various club nights have progressed Orion's style towards technique perfection - although he always gives more value to DJ's ability to interact with the audience and to build the set correctly to fulfill their expectations.
PRODUCTIONS
Alongside DJing Orion has worked on some different fields of electronic music as well. He has produced music for multimedia productions, events and theater plays and written the first university degree research in Finland about flyers in electronic music and youth culture. Furthermore Orion produces and promotes regularly club nights and events all over Finland. During the years spent in the north he has worked for several domestic club tours and introduced countless artists for the first time to northern clubbers. Many clubs and companies have employed him as an Event Manager for their needs. Orion is also one of the creators of the Nordic Techno Forums - the event calendar and discussion forum of club culture in Northern Finland, which has grown to be the no.1 information channel for everyone willing to know about the upcoming events in the arctic. "I've been lucky enough to have people around me who haven't been there for money and fame but for the love to music. I guess none of us ever believed how big the thing would get far in the Finnish outback and I can't give enough credit to all those who have been co-producing, supporting and helping with all the countless productions."
