1) The Island
Music from Finity is always a joy to receive because it always turns into an opportunity to sample really good quality music from usually quite fresh faced producers who're looking to gain footholds in the industry.
After 50 seconds of a pretty plain beat driven introduction, 'The Island' surges into life with a rush of energy quite akin to that found in a lot of Psy-Trance. It carries quite a few similarities - the bassline is deep, rolling and unrelenting, there is an acidic synth presence chattering in the background and there are also a lot of wooshing synth effects and 4 beats silences before another section of the production begins. The differences are, mainly, the pace, which is a lot slower and the beats are soft and rounded instead of the pounding punch of more classic Psy-Trance beats.
Anyway, 'The Island' begins to distinguish itself when it hits the breakdown. A plucked, old sounding stringed instrument plays out a simple melody over silence until the background is layered up with smooth and pristine pads. The whole thing is an inspiring trancey build up - the melody increases and gets synth support, the deep bass kicks in, synthy sfx spice the sound up and the energy just continues to build in a slow surge of melodic bliss. All of this goodness takes the focus away from the fact that the breakdown is quite long, but it's so good it passes you without you even realising. From here, the melodic element is capitalised on and you're graced with a quality combination of leads from the string instrument and backing synths. More grade A material from Finity. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of Winkee too.
Conclusion:
An intriguing blend of styles here. Lots of music coming from Finity is quite progressive, but here, we see elements of trance, progressive and psy-trance combine to form a wicked track which is worthy of a lot of attention.
