Markus Guentner (Kompakt, Ware, Germany)
Regensburg isnt really the place you imagine when you think about a techno-mekka. however, good music is at home there. in opposition to many people, who think much about themselves and their electronic music, markus guentner prefers the lower bavarian province and meddles there with his tracks, which are gladly viewed guests at the colonian label kompakt to the same extent as at matthias schaeffhaeusers ware imprint. markus has got his keen sense of music right from the start and is, already
at pre-school age, sold on everything that comes out of the radio. his parents support him as much as they can and so it comes that guentner is the owner of his first record player at the age of 8, on which he listens his favourite record of madonna on heavy
rotation. by the age of 14 he possesses two turntables including mixer and instead of madonna now he listens to lfo vs. fuse with their classic loop.
In the following years markus heads towards the most wanted djs in regensburg, establishes the bavarian province capitol at the techno-scene-map together with the teichmaenner and even manages to bring djs as sven vaeth, dj hell and westbam to regensburg. being in debt to the dancefloor as dj, guentner makes his mark thanks to his releases like ep s regensburg, his untitled ep on ware or the debut album in moll, to be a capable arranger of minimal- and ambient-sounds.
After his debut album 2001 guentners tracks gain groove and with its follower audio island 2 years later they have shaped up to genial tech-house-tracks. the remix talk talk classic such a shame spins around on turntables all over the world. like his tracks, so is markus guentner a gladly seen guest from usa to asia to europe.
2005 markus guentner released his third longplayer 1981. all 8 of the album tracks reach easily about 7 minutes playing time and for that they almost dont need any beats.
Also 2005 ivo watts-russell (founder of the label 4ad) encountered the music of the german producer markus guentner and was inspired to repackage the hope blister's underarms together with a companion disc produced by markus. the collected underarms and sideways was a betwitching ambient excursion.
And now ... the works for the new ware-album lovely society are finished. the man from regensburg releases his latest f-2-the-floor tracks - so much in terms of tradition - though this time he vehemently proves that his understanding of house and techno goes far beyond dub and minimal house. Released in march 2006.
