DJ Pecu, born Petri Pekkala, is one of the true pioneers of Finnish club scene. He started his career in the age of 16, and after he witnessed the birth of clubs like Botta and The Pit @ KY-Exit in Helsinki, DJ Pecu travelled to Ibiza in 1989. Visiting clubs like Es Paradis and Amnesia, he came back to Finland and started to arrange illegal warehouse parties & raves in Helsinki, Lahti and Turku.

The big breakthrough came in 1993 when DJ Pecu was handed his first major residency @ Rednex in Porvoo. The night was an instant success. Balancing the situation, DJ Pecu continued to promote his own parties in Helsinki, Lahti and Hanko. Between 1993-1995 DJ Pecu was spotted to gather his record bags and make his way through all the major clubbing cities in Europe, including London, Paris, Athens, Stockholm, Geneva, Barcelona, Kopenhagen, Brussels and Hamburg.

His spiritual home, Ibiza, was given a chance to witness his talent during his first residency @ The White Island in 1999. DJ Pecu played 14 nights @ The Lizard in Ibiza Town. In 1995 DJ Pecu launched his own night @ Robert’s in Helsinki. Working as a promoter and resident DJ, Pecu saw his night to become one of the most famous in the history of Helsinki clubbing scene. During his 5 year residency @ Robert’s, his night received a Top 10 nomination for 4 times in the annual City-Lehti’s “The Best Club In Helsinki” –category.


Year 2000 became the milestones of DJ Pecu’s career. After 5 brilliant years at Robert’s, he chose to move on and pursue his career elsewhere. Club Quality was born! A brand new night opened its doors @ legendary Hype Club in Helsinki. The DJs included Pecu, Jokke and Jimpy ( Enter The Dragon, UK ). Following the massive skylights installed over the Helsinki nightskies, local clubbers filled the venue quickly, and the rest is history!


Club Quality quickly became a major player in the Finnish club scene. January 2001 saw the arrival of Slinky Inter-continental World Tour. The Bournemouth, UK –based superclub made its way to Helsinki. Club Kaivohuone in Helsinki hosted one of the most uplifting events Finland had ever seen. DJs included Slinky resident Tim Lyall, Jimpy ( Enter The Dragon, UK ), and Pecu. Local Finnish clubbing community, Platinum, honoured the event and Slinky Inter-continental World Tour in Helsinki was voted #5 in the “The Best Event In Finland” –category in 2001.



During the summer of 2001 and 2002 DJ Pecu travelled to Ibiza and completed his annual residencies @ Slinky , Es Paradis and Rey De Copas. Playing alongside DJs like Lisa Lashes, Dave Lea, Rob Tissera, John Kelly, Pete Wardman, James Holden, Garry White and Anne Savage kept him busy, but the biggest moment came during the summer of 2002, when DJ Pecu was given a chance to play alongside legendary Ibiza DJ Giovanni @ Es Paradis’ world famous Fiesta Del Agua , the Water Party. Approximately 4000 clubbers went absolutely bananas. DJ Pecu was interviewed by local club radio station, and received a chance to complete a mix, which was played on air and introduced in October 2002.



Landing back to Helsinki in late August 2002, DJ Pecu continued his brainchild project, Club Quality, and a new home was found in September 2002 @ System in Helsinki. Again, Helsinki saw DJ Pecu playing alongside his monthly residents Unik and Simon London, plus local Finnish talent, including Jussi Soro, Jay Lamar, Homegrove, Aslak, Sacharias, OlliS and Lucy Luke & Cinnamon, were introduced. During 2000-2004 DJ Pecu worked as a promoter and resident DJ @ Club Quality, but he was also spotted behind the decks @ Labyrinth SSS in Rauma, Drama in Helsinki and Viva Helsinki.


2004, after 4 great years as the head of Club Quality, DJ Pecu chose to close the doors of his nights@ System. Keeping his eyes and mind open, DJ Pecu has continued to cherish the dancefloors in Finland, visiting the clubs like Code Red in Karjaa and Loop in Helsinki. The unique style of DJ Pecu, blending tribal progressive beats and dark, electro house, keeps him in the top of the list as one of the very few Finnish DJs still around, after 20 years of success.
