Fergie

Fergie’s unique and inspirational story provides a new paradigm for any aspiring youngster to follow, it’s a tale of ambition, unswerving determination, and taking your opportunities. The result has been the realisation of a dream!
The journey began in Fergie’s beloved emerald isle, Larn to be more precise. Not many djs can lay claim to having their club debut at a tender 14 years of age, but the ambitious young Fergie did just that (with the help of a milk crate to actually reach the turntables, following which he was routinely escorted out of the venue by police for being underage!). By the age of 16, Fergie had infiltrated and exhausted Ireland’s club scene and set his sights across the water. Fergie arrived in the uk and was soon introduced to the late and great Tony De Vit whom became a friend and mentor, and he remains to this day as one of Fergie’s most inspirational influences.

Before long Fergie was making a name for himself with the UK’s clubbers in renowned nights such as ‘Trade’ and ‘Sundissential’ and proving just why there was such a hype surrounding his arrival. The Balearics beckoned and in the summer of 1998 Fergie dipped his toes into the Ibizan scene, with impressive debutant sets at such luminary venues as ‘Privilege’, ‘Space’ & ‘Bora Bora’. 2 years later he returned as resident for the mighty Godskitchen’s nights at Amnesia and Eden. Before long Fregie was one of the most talked about and in demand djs in the UK, with a profile that was escalating at a meteoric rate. In 2000 the hype was recognised as Fregie entered the prestigious DJ magazine annual awards as the highest debutant ever at a staggering number 8. In 2001 his hard work was acknowledged with a nomination for the coveted Muzik magazine Dance Awards, aswell as a further nomination for Best Club at the international ‘Dancestar’ awards.

Fergie’s style was born through the harder hitting styles of house music, and through the past five years, his style has evolved to encompass a much wider appreciation and exploration of dance genres, with a current style closest resembling ‘techno fuelled’ beats. Fergie learnt from Tony De Vit the invaluable skill to continually push yourself to explore new sounds and continually evolve as both dj and producer; Fergie’s mastery of this is a testament to his longevity and his 5-year professional ascension. What will always remain constant is the fact fergie is the consummate performer, a skill that has always come naturally to Fergie and remains to make his performances so unique. The energy he exudes and outstanding technical abilities are second to none.!

By 2002 Fergie’s talents were sought by the prestigious BBC Radio 1 station, and provided him with the opportunity to showcase his sound to both the nation and the world on a weekly basis. Fergie has also utilised his public position to contribute something back to aspiring youngsters, coining the term ‘Future Heroes’. Through a culmination of his Radio 1 show, his column in Mixmag, and a dedicated night at Turnmills, Fergie has created a multimedia platform to nurture dance music’s rising stars. His benevolence to help others can be seen in his sponsorship support of his beloved local Irish football team, more recently he brought the radio 1 show live from their football stadium to raise money for the club as part of his inaugural homecoming weekend. Whilst juggling his hugely successful radio show, Fergie has still found time to satisfy the international demand for his dj skills, aswell as spearheading tours such as Godskitchen’s first major assault on the US.

The natural progression for Fergie has been to translate his passion and ideas into his own productions. Fergie’s first release was in 1999 with the track ‘Ooh Sir’ on Trade Records, which were followed by tracks such as ‘Hoovers & Horns’ and ‘House Of Pain’ both on the now sadly defunct ‘Nucleuz’. His burgeoning talent resulted in an exclusive singles deal with the renowned ‘Duty Free’ label. His debut mix compilation on Ministry Of Sound, under the ‘Headliners’ also proved a huge success.

Fergie’s success has been down to a serious amount of hard work, passion for music, zest for life, and least we forget a huge amount of talent! Being in the spotlight for the past five years has caused Fergie to grow up very quickly and take stock of his responsibility. Still at the young age of 24, Fergie has achieved the kind of success some can only dream of. However he is not a man to rest on his laurels, and 2005 is set to be a huge year for dance music’s boy wonder. On the production front he has been diligently working in the studio producing a stunning arsenal of new productions and the beginnings of an artist album. This coupled with collaborative projects with techno don Mauro Piccotto, are set to see Fergie firmly establish himself as one of the most exciting producers of the year. With the summer months beckoning, we can once again look forward to catching Fergie at the coveted Radio 1 Ibiza weekend aswell as numerous other broadcast dates to boot. With a hectic international schedule, Its a safe bet to say that you’ll be hearing a lot more from Fergie…it’s only just begun!
