Keskustelu yhden merijalkaväen sotilaspojan kanssa täällä Friscossa eilen:
Kundi: "So, you guys don't like swiss?"
Minä: "Excuse me? Why wouldn't we...? Ah you mean Swedes!"
Kundi:"Isn't it the same thing?"
Minä: "No, Switzerland is a country in central Europe next to France, Sweden is part of Scandinavia in northern Europe. But yes, we obviously hate our neighbours, Russians and Swedes, like all people do."
Kundi: "So, situating next to Russia, your country is like Ukraine?"
Minä: "...This conversation is over, it'd take all night to explain the differences between Ukraine and Finland."
Ihmeellisintä on, että se jätkä vaikutti tosissaan kiinnostuneelta. Lupasin kertoa toiste sille näitä mielenkiintoisia asioita. :D
When trying to teach someone new things, one should always mind the pupils past, intellect and frame of mind. From there, find a way of delivering new information in a language and form the pupil is most accustomed to.
For example, the difference between Ukraine and Finland could be described as follows:
Ukraine: Hooah!
Finland: Ooh-rah!
