MUSIC IS YOUR ESCAPE!

KIKI
Good voodoo. It´s not only Kiki´s most well known track with the beautiful vocals of Chela Simone and the name of his radio show on Ibiza Sonica and Proton Radio, but it symptomizes perfectly that moment, when you loose yourself on the dance floor and see him smiling, while he plays music you didn´t know you want to hear.

Joakim Ijäs was born in Helsinki, but has now found his home in Berlin. Initial forays into making sounds with violins and pianos soon gave hway to the mechanical beats of hip-hop, mixed together with more popular sounds whilst playing at school discos before he was even a teenager. With such an early start it was no surprise that before he was old enough to enter a club, Kiki was holding down a weekly residency at Helsinki’s Tempo club, which was swiftly followed by another at the Smile club. A move to Berlin in 1994 to study Architecture was the catalyst for Kiki to step in to the realms of a serious DJ. Impressing the legendary Masters At Work at a Marlboro DJ competition led to him securing gigs at Berlin’s three cathedrals of techno -Tresor, Pfefferbank and WMF. Gigs in Berlin and Germany were soon followed by a string of international bookings and the release of an infamous three deck mix for Sonnenhaus which led to DE:BUG worrying about the health of his, fingers.

With his profile as a DJ growing it was two short steps to releasing his first record on Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control label in 2001, who through a happy coincidence he had met when the pair were double booked to play the same DJ slot. Since then Kiki has become an integral part of the BPitch family growing into a truly international artist, sharing his love of energetic and hypnotic music across the globe from Mexico, to Tokyo and making a little bit of history along the way. With an output that has been nothing short of prolific, Kiki has released a number of genre defining records both as himself and later with partners in crime Silversurfer, Sasse, Chaim, Joyce Muniz and many more. Kiki was the first artist asked to put together a mix for the now legendary Boogy Bytes series, and has been asked to provide remixes and productions for labels as diverse as Bugged Out, Playhouse and Crosstown Rebels where he had the honour of being the first artist releasing on the label. His debut album Run With Me, released on Bpitch Control, was an international success, and led to the video for “Shake Off” (a collaboration with Silversurfer and Captain Comatose) being playlisted by MTV. More recently a collaboration with Sasse and his Moodmusic imprint led to the release of the excellent Grand Cru – a modern club classic already.

However, as he has grown and matured, a yearning to explore deeper and more personal forms of expression in music, has led to Kiki working on his follow up to his debut album: Kaiku, that spawned the single "Good Voodoo".

After "Kaiku" and especially the huge success of the album single "Good Voodoo", Kiki has put out "Cinema Obscura" & "Morning Maniacs" (with a ridiculosuly funny video) on Bpitch, started a radioshow on Proton Radio in 2010 in collaboration with Noice!, that evolved into his own show Good Voodoo on Ibiza Sonica and Proton in 2013. He is producing singles for Anja Schneider and Ellen Allien and keeps touring all 5 continents. 2014 also saw the highly succesful collaboration with Joyce Muniz, "Warriors" hit MTV and Viva with a video...

ORKIDEA
It’s been amazing twenty years since me and my friends started organizing illegal raves in the squat houses of Helsinki in early 90s. Most bizarre experience must have been DJing for Jean-Paul Gaultier and Helena Christensen at a Berlin fetish club Kit Kat after their first ever Berlin show. Most flashy ones have been entertaining the rich & famous of Hong Kong or Russia while warming up Chemical Brothers, Paul van Dyk or Underworld was something I’ll never forget. From the venues I’ve DJed Tresor in Berlin, Pacha in Ibiza, Ministry of Sound in London and CODE in Tokyo were special places to play.

My recording career started in 1998 with Slusnik Luna’s Nicklas Renqvist. ‘Unity‘ was signed to british Steelfish label and found it’s way to Gatecrasher and Renaissance compilations. Sasha and Oakenfold opened their Essential Mixes with it and Pete Tong played it on BBC Radio 1. Gigs with DJ Tiesto lead into signing to his Black Hole label while other releases include ‘Embrace’ on Five AM and ‘Beautiful‘ on Sential (finnish national singles chart #1). Most famous colaborations include ‘YearZero‘ together with Andy Moor, ‘God’s Garden‘ together with David West and ‘Zeitgeist‘ with Solarstone. My remixes include Aalto’s ‘Rush‘ made together with Super8, Stage One remix made for Hooj Choons, Way Out West’s ‘Killa‘ and more recently a bootleg remix of Hans Zimmer’s ‘Time‘ from Inception soundtrack which Paul Oakenfold loved so much he did his own edit. In 2011 I released my third artist album “20” which also celebrates my twenty years of DJing.

As promoters we have come a very long way from the days of illegal warehouse raves. Together with my friends, we have run Club Unity for over ten years, promoted Renaissance’s events in Helsinki and organized events called “Pacifique” for almost 3000 people in a water park. We have had fun at 16 hour Sunday clubbing sessions at DTM and have brought Jose Padilla to Finland. We have organised events on boats, in parks, on ice-skating rinks and even did one of Finland’s first flash mobs: the infamous One Minute Raves. The longest set I’ve ever played was 23 hours on New Year’s Day in 2010. To me electronic music and club culture has always been about open-mindness, unity amongst people and pushing the musical boundaries forward, whether it’s ambient concert in a park or full on rave in warehouse. Uniting the sounds, the minds, the people…

ODED PELED
Oded's affair with the night life started at the age of 16, when he somehow got through the tight selection of the legendary Allenby 58 in Tel Aviv. What he heard, saw and felt that night is something that DJ biography's all around are filled with. 'Caught the bug, head blew off, saw the light, met his calling, fell in love' and all that.

With his move to Finland, Odeds mom bought him a pair of turntables, because he pretty much always got what he really wanted. Full of energy and innocence, Oded secured some gigs and started to build a name for himself. Events got more exciting, crowds got bigger, parties got longer and the all day breakfast more appealing than ever before.

The biggest chapter in Oded's life in club-land happened when he was 19. After many trips to a then booming underground Amsterdam scene, Oded got the idea of starting up Finland's first professional DJ Booking agency. Together with his big brother Asaf, they started Misc Management in 1999. What was meant to be an office concentrating in promoting and booking Finnish artists abroad, quickly evolved into one of the most active importers of international DJ's into Finland and its surrounding Scandinavian and Baltic countries. David Morales, Tiësto, Pete Tong, Eric Prydz, Sister Bliss, Mr C, 808 State, José Padilla, Derrick Carter, Nick Warren and over 100´s others all establish great connection with Misc based on their professional attitude to the business and hospitality as warm as a sauna.

Aside for the fact that working with egomaniac DJ agents was killing the brothers' passion for the scene they loved dearly, it was also obvious that there was so much more within their reach. For 14 years and counting, they have been writing for magazines, producing TV and radio shows, running a DJ school, tour managing internationally, producing events for corporate companies and promoting some of the most visible and respected club events in their country. What I'm trying to get at, is that Oded's understanding of what makes a memorable night is built out of so many different aspects, that even a hardened Ibiza hedonist couldn't get to the bottom of.

Oded's time in the studio has resulted in a couple of vinyl releases, appearances on compilations such as Underwater Records and in the record cases of some of his personal heroes such as Josh Wink, Joe Clausell, Orlando Voorn, Laurent Garnier and Derrick May. Oded has always enjoyed mixing up different styles of unexplainably genred music. He feels best playing what could be called 'Hightec 21st Century Soul". Which is also a bit annoyingly genred.

Aside from his continuous gigs in Finland, Oded has DJ'ed in 20 different countries. From warming up Underworld on their Baltic tour, to a teenage packed ice hockey stadium in Murmansk, to a sweaty gay club in Singapore and never forgetting his sunset gigs in magical Bali. Oded always aims to give his crowd something they are looking for, but more than that, give them that feeling like it's the first time, every-time.
