Ever since meeting Mai Nestor in Malmö mid-Sept 2018, we've been enchanted with her ragged, smudgy soundscapes for expats in a world that dwells in slow decay. As a musician and photographer hailing from Gothenburg, she's been active in Stockholm music scene for years and now resides in Berlin. Her outputs include mixes for NTS, iDEAL and brkntoys and doing vocals for a Swedish wave band Facit, whose melancholic explorations have been released on Cititrax, Waving Hands and Käften.
Mai's brilliance lies in navigating the murky waters where crude electro-industrial hostility and dark, mutilated beats meet earthy, noirish anomalies - like moulding a soundtrack for a retro-futurist western where the protagonist swims across sewage just to ride into a blood-red sunset through an infinite wasteland. A sludgy pit to spend your insomniac morning hours in.
