REBELS#2 WITH HIFI SEAN (DEFECTED, U.K), TATU V (DRAG ATTACK! MADRID) // SATURDAY 27.01.2018
LESSON 2: EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS
Men and women long ago, in ages however primeval, realised beauty, and answered back its thrill with gladness and songs. Music, dancing and rhythm - all of them art forms which have no other goal than themselves. Our ordinary language refers to life, but music is living. Live in the mode of music instead of the mode of language. Expand your horizons, taste the lost fruit.
“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.” (Nietzsche)
A DJ, Producer and Songwriter, currently known for his album ‘FT’, which he describes as ‘electronic, psychedelic soul’. Released in 2016, the album boasts collaborations with an extraordinarily diverse range of artists including some of the most significant underground musical icons of the past 40 years.
‘FT’'s stellar collection of artists includes: Yoko Ono, avantgarde musician, conceptual art icon and one of the most controversial female artists of all time; William "Bootsy" Collins, widely regarded as one of the finest Funk/RnB bass players in the world; Dave Ball, co-founder of Soft Cell, the UK’s notorious synth pioneers with the uniquely sleazy electric soul, Fred Schneider from the manic, bizarre and highly innovative US new-wave group B-52’s and Alan Vega, vocalist of the seminal proto-punk New York duo Suicide.
‘FT’ has attracted significant critical praise and broke the top 20 album chart; tracks released from the album have also proved immensely popular. The animated video for his Yoko Ono Collaboration ‘In Love with Life’ received a share from YouTube themselves to their 66 million subscribers. His current single “Testify” feat. Crystal Waters reached #2 in the Shazam chart, #3 in the iTunes Dance chart and spent 3 months in the top 30 singles; it was further hyped at the start of the year by The Black Madonna in her Radio 1 Essential Selection of acts to watch in 2017 for Pete Tong. “Testify” also hit the #1 slot on the Billboard Dance Chart in USA .
In addition to writing and producing his own solo album, Sean has been passionately dedicated to his DJ sets (which include many self produced tracks) holding down residencies and guest appearances at Shoreditch House, EAST BLOC, Dalston Superstore, Savage, Q-Lab Milan and most recently at Ministry of Sound Club. In the last two years he has toured extensively; six tours of the USA, an Australian tour and numerous appearances at various European cities. He has released his own productions on Norman Cook’s Southern Fried label, NYC’s 'Get Up Recordings' with Severino (Horse Meat Disco), a series of edits on Midnight Riot Records with NYC’s DJ Shalvoy and most recently has signed to Defected and is a resident at the hugely successful Glitterbox parties in Ibiza, Croatia & London .
