International DJ, charting producer, in-demand remixer and Beatport Music Awards nominee Olivier Giacomotto is a proven player in the electronic music scene. He first got into production in 1999 working as a production assistant at Townhouse Studios in London, later relocating back to France with enough experience to start a career as a music composer.
Since then, Olivier has found his path in techno, house, electro, tech-house and deep house, releasing on acclaimed labels such as Suara, Get Physical, Noir Music, Definitive Recordings, Plus 8, Great Stuff and Knee Deep In Sound and collaborating with dance heavyweights such as John Acquaviva, Kiko Umek and Popof.
Outside of the studio Oliver, is known for his exhilarating DJ performances that combine a heavy dose of groove and funk and, has had the pleasure of headlining some of the world’s most iconic venues and events such as; Privilege (ES), Rex Club (FR), Ministry of Sound (UK), Womb (JP), Fabrik (ES), Pacha (BR), Fusion Festival (DE), Weekend (DE), X2 (ID), Zona (RU), Sensation White (CO) plus many more.
Alongside his partner John Acquaviva, Olivier currently co-runs independent label Definitive Recordings. Launched originally in 1991 by John Acquaviva, Richie Hawtin and Karl Kowalski, Definitive represented the housier side of the electronic empire that Hawtin and Acquaviva started with Plus 8 Records in 1990, and after a brief hiatus, John Acquaviva re-launched Definitive in 2005 with Olivier as his main artist and partner, seeking and presenting the latest emerging sounds and talent to the world via a reputable, consistent, and trust-worthy platform.
As well as boasting a number of excellent releases under his own name, Olivier has composed several songs for mainstream artists and regularly sells tracks to appear on top-selling video games and Hollywood box office movies. In 2016, Olivier composed the soundtrack to his first full length feature film - the award-winning horror movie 'The Red Man' - further highlighting his adaptability and raw talent for music production.
This achievement combined with a relentless work ethic for touring has meant 2016 was one of Olivier’s most active and successful years to date. He performed more than 80 shows at clubs such as Ministry Of Sound (UK), Magdalena (DE) and Rex Club (FR) and continued to put out a number of top-quality releases, including an EP and several remixes under the alias of Cold Miles – a collaborate venture featuring Kiko. Releases on Definitive, Suara, Get Physical, Tronic and Noir were all met with the same praise, with the latter releasing, ‘Reste’, a track which reached the Top 7 in Beatport’s Overall chart. With a number of high-profile forthcoming releases on labels such as Suara, Noir Music and Toolroom, 2017 looks set to be another big year for the ever-ambitious Olivier Giacomotto.
Since forming in 2012, Leftwing & Kody have gone on to become two of the UK’s finest exports. Both Mixmag and DJ Mag named them as ones to watch a mere year after they paired up, with DJ Mag even nominating them for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ in their Best of British Awards. Since then the duo have gone on to present a monthly Rinse FM show, earn residencies at Fabric (London) and Sankeys (Ibiza), as well as releases on Hot Creations, VIVa, Truesoul, Mobilee and Knee Deep In Sound, as well as their own renowned imprint Lost Records.
It’s fair to say Leftwing & Kody, real names Jon Kong and Chris Adie, have made it look easy, but it’s their determination and diligence that’s helped them prosper so rapidly in such a short time. Before long support from the upper echelons of house and techno quickly burgeoned, with Carl Cox, Jamie Jones, James Zabiela, Maya Jane Coles, Loco Dice, Steve Lawler, Adam Beyer, Nic Fanciulli and Huxley continually advocating their productions throughout the years. Before long the pair had launched Lost Records, before kick-starting it with a lauded release from Darius Syrossian. Now, with regular label showcases and a Beatport topping discography spanning forty releases, Lost Records can boast a roster including wAFF, Josh Butler, Detlef Yousef and Mihalis Safras. With everything mentioned it’s no surprise, then, that Leftwing & Kody continue to charm BBC tastemakers such as Pete Tong, Danny Howard, Monki, MistaJam and Nemone. Meanwhile, press support has been equally tenacious, with the likes of Mixmag, DJ Mag, Thump and Dancing Astronaut regularly endorsing the likely duo.
Reflecting on a 2016 that’s seen Leftwing & Kody and Lost Records attain new heights, including releases on Viva, Truesoul, Mobilee and Knee Deep In Sound a renowned summer residency at Viva Warriors (Sankeys Ibiza) there’s clearly no symptoms of Jon and Chris resting on their laurels. With releases already lined up on Wow Recordings, Relief Records, Solid Grooves and a landmark 50th release on Lost Records, fans of their high-octane musical aesthetic have an exciting 2017 to look forward to.
