Shpongle will release new anticipated album Codex VI on 23rd October 2017!
Simon Posford is a true legend in the world of electronic music and one of the founders of the psy-trance scene. Simon is also the musical genius behind Shpongle where he gathered 4 other talented musicians, as well, of course, Raja Ram - Druid of Psy. Simon and Raja Ram are considered to be one of the progenitors of the psybient genre - a genre combining world music with psychedelic trance and ambient.
With the release of Simon's first Hallucinogen album 1995, "Twisted" a genre was born. There are many words to describe modern electronic music but none that come close to the wealth of emotion and experience that comes from listening to a Posford tune.
"If I would need to name an artist who has had the biggest impact in my life, Simon Posford would be there definitely in top three. Simon's first Hallucinogen album in 1995 totally renovated the electronic music scene. The talent of this album was so overwhelming that it felt like it was century ahead of the other comparable albums. The sound manipulation and sonic flow was out of this world! Only other who came even close to this unbelievable art was Juno Reactor.
I'm super excited to bring the master back to Helsinki and it's already more than two years since we had him last time here. Without saying this event will be truly memorably and magical trip like two years ago... pure Fluoro Neuro Sponge!" Harri Proteus <3
Shpongle is a psychedelic downtempo or Psybient music project. The members are Simon Posford (aka Hallucinogen) and Raja Ram (one third of The Infinity Project). Simon takes care of the production, instrumentation and programming, while Raja Ram is the flautist and Cunning Linguist. They DJ separately and together, Simon having just completed 52 shows in the USA touring with a visual extravaganza known as 'The Shpongletron'.
Dongle and Mongle are the only two other words rhyming with Shpongle...a strange hybrid of electronic manipulation and shamanic midgets with frozen digits squeezing the envelope and crawling through the doors of perception, find a new pair of dice...extra numbers and colours an infinite expanding bubble, filled with a bizzare, strange world of dripping hallucinatory wallpaper, a garden of earthly delights...........Shpongleland.....a place of well being, and reflective surfaces, morphing like an anacondas skin and shimmering like a million colour changing squid, at fifty fathoms.. truly unfathomable like seperating water from it's wetness, the Ineffable Mysteries unweave .....
Hallucinogen aka Simon Posford is a pioneer of electronic music and founder of the psy-trance scene. With the release of his first album, "Twisted", which reached Number 27 in the French album charts, a genre was born. There are many words to describe modern electronic music but none that come close to the wealth of emotion and experience that comes from listening to a Posford tune.
These days he is just as likely to be entrancing crowds around the globe with a throbbingly epic live set as he is to be dribbling ambient delectations in the Hallucinogen Soundlabs in the West Country. He is co-director of Twisted Records with Simon Holton, ex-label manager of Dragonfly Records. Their label is one of the hottest underground gatherings of talent this side of Mars. Hallucinogen's second album "The Lone Deranger" blew the lid off the musical scene that had built up around his influence. Not only did it have more of the killer musical riffs but also was a feat of clean production and professionalism previously seen with the likes of The Floyd, one of Simon's major influences. Another tune that influenced Simon was "The Age of Love" by Jam & Spoon and this can be heard in some of his earlier releases. More recently he has produced tracks with Benji Vaughan for their band Younger Brother. Simon Posford has completed new sounds with Dub 'Ott' & Hallucinogen and is currently collaborating with the Twisted Allstars and touring the world spreading his music to all sorts of people. There is talk of a 'Hallucinogen 3' but Simon's most recent album is "Tales of the Inexpressible", his second album by Shpongle. Simon is the musical genius behind Shpongle and for this latest orgy of brain fluid he gathered 4 other talented musicians, as well, of course, as Raja Ram-Druid of Psy.
