- MAZTEK -
Italian-born DnB artist Maztek represents the nano-fine edge of the Neurofunk scene. From humble beginnings playing in bands as a teenager, he fell under the spell of the mighty basslines that DnB is renowned for in the midst of both illegal raves in Rome and commercial events with acts like Fabio, Grooverider and Roni Size. Seeing the potential of the sound, he set to developing a unique futuristic aesthetic of his own – creating an audio realm under his Maztek moniker that has become highly influential throughout the world.
His first releases appeared through his own ‘Subculture’ imprint, getting him noticed and picked up by labels such as ‘Modulate’, ‘Icarus Audio’ and ‘Syndrome Audio’ – staples of the Neurofunk scene. But his graphic design roots and dystopian vision led to him being drawn to the Tech-focused visual and sonic aesthetics of Renegade Hardware, coupled with their considerable legacy. Following meeting the crew in London, his first ‘Galactica // Odyssey’ single came out on Renegade Hardware in 2012 – constituting a bold and refined step onto the label. This first step was followed up with the ‘Limber’ and ‘M Theory’ EPs in 2013, cementing his place on the label and firmly pushing Maztek’s name to the very forefront of the rave scenes awareness. His considered and weighty manifesto through his ‘ThreePointZero’ LP represented one of the last significant releases on Renegade Hardware before the label announced its closure – with Maztek left of one of the defining bookmarks at the end of the label’s epic history.
With his single ‘What We Bring // Caph’ on BTK’s well-respected ‘Dutty Audio’ label, his highly acclaimed ‘Unorthodox’ EP on legendary label C4C Recordings and his debut appearance on leading-label ‘Virus Recordings’ alongside Optiv & BTK through the ‘Dive Bomb’ EP; Maztek is forging his own path through the DnB scene – the future looks set for an exciting evolution. Alongside this, Maztek has collaborated with worldwide Hip-hop and Grime superstars Dope D.O.D. with the track ‘From The Shadows’ – the official video of which now has over 230,000 views and has been a staple of Dope D.O.D.’s 2015 world tour. His touring schedule is relentless, with Maztek hitting all of the major European DnB festivals and clubs, in addition to touring the US and Canada. This is an artist gilding the world in a layer of sleek technology, a true modern pioneer of Drum and Bass.
- BTK -
BTK's music has found homes far and wide, with international releases on a wide range of the industry's leading labels. His music has appeared on Renegade Hardware, Shogun Audio, Playaz, Dispatch and V Records, to name only a few. This range of imprints easily shows the range and dynamism of his work, and an innate ability to appeal to a variety of audiences. Never treading the same ground twice, his prolific production skills have meant that he has been constantly in demand the world over. But his shining achievements have been with two other labels, for which he is arguably best known.
His own label, Dutty Audio, has shot BTK straight into the drum & bass stratosphere. Universally respected for its selection policies, the label has seen releases from both BTK himself and a carefully curated range of artists, all of which appeal to BTK's sense of what is right, and what will work for the label. Dutty has issued music from such luminaries as Cern, Level 2, Ink, Neve and more, as well as the man himself, and has always prided itself on its commitment to quality, musicality and pure power. In addition, his work on the iconic Virus Recordings has ranged from his debut LP (in collaboration with Optiv) in 2012, to the brand new Blackjack LP, which is set to create new ground in the ever-expanding d&b universe, of which Optiv and BTK sit at the very pinnacle. The new album contains some of BTK's biggest and best work to date and is sure to delight fans new and old. But it's not just behind the boards that BTK excels; it is also behind the decks.
He has played at some of the biggest events on the planet, not only in his native Brazil and his adopted Europe, but North America, Australia, you name it, BTK has played it. He brings an energy and passion to his shows, consistently giving the crowd what it wants, and more. BTK has worked with the leading names in the drum & bass world. He's shown his knowledge of, and dedication to, the scene. His future is bright, with the new LP already gathering buzz ahead of its release. No matter what you are looking for, BTK always delivers, bringing his unique sound to the masses.
- DOC SCOTT -
A true veteran and leading tastemaker in D&B, Doc Scott has been an essential and pivotal figure in the scene since before its inception and continues to push things forward. Founding member of ‘A Bunch Of Cuts’, his DJ sets in the mid-90s became legendary, notably at the Metalheadz Blue Note sessions and ‘Speed’. Although primarily a DJ, his productions are definitive classics within the scene, such as ‘Here Comes The Drumz’ on Reinforced, the first ever Metalheadz release ‘VIP Drumz’, to the more mellow sounds of ‘Tokyo Dawn’ on Good Looking Records. His own label 31 Records, sparked by Scott’s ground-breaking ‘Shadow Boxing’, has also been a hub for new talent, pushing some of the biggest artists today in their early days. Having recently re-launched the label, Om Unit’s remix of ‘Shadow Boxing’ is the first release of 2014, with many others to follow. The New Year also marks a fresh start for Doc Scott, as he makes his long awaited return to the studio.
- RESOUND -
Ilpo Kärkkäinen aka Resound is a music producer and a DJ from Tampere, Finland. His music has been released by many seminal drum&bass labels such as Exit Records, Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware,31 Records, Samurai Music and Digital Soundboy,
With releases on almost 50 independent record labels worldwide since the year 2000, he is a true veteran of the drum&bass scene! Resound has collaborated a lot with Andrew Campbell, also known as Loxy. Together they have pioneered a distinctive and forward thinking sound that was championed on their influential 2012 album "Burning Shadows" on Exit Records.
Their latest venture is The Levels, which sees them combine forces with Danish singer/songwriter Alia Fresco.
Throughout the years Resound has also been involved on many game soundtracks and he does a lot of music production, mixing and mastering work for others. Ilpo also has a passion for writing and teaching. He runs a popular blog called Resoundsound (http://www.resoundsound.com) where he helps other producers master their craft.
