RUMBLE!! Presents EZ ROLLERS (UK)
EZ ROLLERS (UK) [Moving Shadow, Intercom]
Jay & Alex go way back having been friends since their school days of the 1980’s. Long before they formed EZ Rollers they were Djing at all the clubs and events where they lived in the East of England. Alex first signed to the legendary Moving Shadow Records in 1992 as one half of Hyperon Experence. Jay signed to Shadow in 1993 as one half of JMJ & Richie.
Despite these other projects Jay and Alex planned to work together and in 1994 formed the E-Z Rollers releasing their first single ‘Believe / Rolled into 1’. Following this they compiled ‘Storm from the East’ , a collection of tracks that showcased the regional talent emerging from the East of England. For their own production work, the pair decided on a vocal approach and enlisted local friend Kelly Richards. Their first long-player together, ‘Dimensions Of Sound’, arrived in 1996.
Their second album, ‘Weekend World’,was released in 1998. Singles like ‘Tough At The Top’ and the even bigger ‘Walk This Land’ , a cut that got to an astonishing No.18 in the UK charts selling 90000 copies, following its appearance in the British flick, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, sent the E-Z Rollers popularity rocketing and prompted a re-release of the album in 1999.
This was followed with another big release in 2000, the twisted guitar funk of ‘RS2000’. The Rollers were also creating tracks for video games such as GTA, Rollcage, Toca 2, Waverace and many more.
The E-Z’s third album for Moving Shadow ‘Titles Of The Unexpected’ was released in October 2002, this included some very special guest appearances such as old school rapper Doug.E.Fresh and disco diva Sharon Brown. ‘Back To Love’ was the big single including a Roni Size remix . The Rollers remixed ‘Sound Adivce’ for Roni in return.
Since the ‘Titles’ LP E-Z Rollers have concentrated on their label Intercom Recordings. Intercom has featured another of E-Z Rollers big tracks ‘Crowd Rocker’ taken from the two Lickable Beats compilation’s and also featuring on Andy C’s Nightlife mix.
In 2007 E-Z Rollers released their fourth artist album on Intercom and toured with a live band. This album entitled ‘Conductor’ received support from the likes of LTJ Bukem, Hospital Records cru & Bryan G .
2009 saw the release of the single ‘Here I Am’ on Mastermind Records. The track ‘Jackie Mittoo’ appeared on DJ Hype’s Drum & Bass Essentials cd and ‘Devil To Pay’ featured on High Contrasts mix cd. They also created a mix called R15, available through Drum & Bass Arena podcast, to celebrate 15 years of making tunes as EZ Rollers.
