Fiilis - We Love Pääsiäinen With Dj Upi
Night Amarillo, Kouvola
"He has the music, professional attitude, energy, enthusiasm, and the sense of style all there. He is already active and relatively familiar in Helsinki but has the potential to be one of the Finnish top DJs in the future."
This is how the jury described Upi in "The Future Royals Of The Finnish Club Life" article in the famous newspaper City in the fall of 2011. They might have used the crystal ball since this young talent has already made it to the legendary Tyree Cooper's Jack The Box brotherhood and hosts two radio shows on nationwide Bassoradio in Finland and Sweat Lodge Radio in Berlin. Upi's programs and numerous club nights are continously visited by artists like Rolando, Jori Hulkkonen, Luomo, Andreas Saag, etc. Upi has played sets around the globe from Berlin to Tokyo and of course Finland.
Upi is famous for his large variety of underground parties held in surprising locations like a public sauna, old train tunnel or even in a wartime cannon cave not to even mention the more "normal" places.
Upi played drums, piano and the Finnish national instrument kantele for many years before finding the art of deejaying. As a mark from his childhood years Upi's sets are always warm, musically rich and sound organic. In front of a full dancefloor his sound goes to a more rhythmic and techier way but give him a slot at 8 a.m. on a beach and he'll deliver some melodic and eclectic disco-vibed stuff for the crowd. As Upi says when asking about his current style: "It smells like Berlin and has the heat of Southern Europe."
