Beatwave – Rytmiaalto summer festival series at mbar offers a four-day programme of electronic music. Friday July 1st is charged with fresh Drum n Bass with Beatwave #5: Subwave (RUS/Hospital Records, Metalheadz), dj Physics, Defence djs.
Subwave
Subwave comes from the heart of Moscow’s rising Drum and Bass scene. Gleb started to make music with production partner Alexander Rotov over ten years ago, grabbing the attention of the late John Peel no less, with a debut release on Tech Itch recordings in 2001. More tunes followed with a remix of Tiesto (with Paul B) getting attention stateside and following Gleb going solo, a 12" on Goldie's Metalheadz label.
Not only a talented Producer, Gleb is also held in high regard as both a DJ and Promoter, and was involved in the first "Hospitality" night in Russia in 2006. He has gone on to promote the massive "Refreshed" night in Moscow's "Propaganda" nightclub with DJ Vipah, as well as DJing all over Russia and across Europe.
2009 sees Subwave elevate into the top D+B bracket, and with two awesome tracks on Hospital's Future Sound of Russia, he impressed the Hospital A+R team so much, they signed him as an artist.
Successfully marrying ice cold minimalism with wide open dance floor sonics, and with huge support from the likes Hype, Fabio, London Elektricity and of course Goldie, expect more Subwave in your system shortly.
Physics
Physics (Midnight Sun, Metalheadz, Vampire, Secret Operations) is the production/DJ moniker for drum&bass producer/DJ and label owner Glenn Grip currently recording for Labels such as Metalheadz, Blindside, Fokuz, Jerona Fruits,Jerona Dubs, Telluric, Zen- Phuzion Recordings, Phuturistic Bluez, Planet Funk, MAC II/Subzero Recordings, Vibez Recordings and Vampire Records UK. He also runs Finland based label Midnight Sun Recordings, as well as managing the digital download shop www.digital-tunes.net alongside companion William Coates.
Glenn started producing late 90`s and it didn`t take long before his music was snapped up by international labels. Physics music has been supported by international DJ:s such as LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Randall, Storm, Nookie, Marcus Intalex, Marky&XRS, D-Bridge, Bryan Gee, Makoto and many more. Being a busy DJ as well, Djing work have taken him to countries like Czech Rep, Sweden, Romania, Lithuania, Denmark, Russia, UK, Austria, Estonia to name but a few, playing the unique sounds of his deep drum & bass. He is also known for promoting the longest running d&b night Beatniks in Helsinki.
Currently working in the studio with heavyweights of the industry such as Seba (Secret Ops), Phil Source (Source Direct) and Savage Rehab (V Recs), Physics is not slowing down anytime soon.
Defence
Defence is the latest project by two guys, Matti and Mikko. During the last year they've gained a strong foothold in the domestic Drum & Bass scene. As well as having a monthly night in Mbar, writing tunes and constantly gigging across Finland has rapidly expanded their fan base. Having a couple of releases in the pipeline, it's certain that these guys aren't stopping now.
Matti and Mikko are both originally hip hop heads, but after hearing tracks like "Horizons" and "Watermelon" nearly a decade ago, there's been no turning back. Since then people have been able to witness them rocking the crowd separately and together at parties around Finland. Sharing similar influences and interests in music as well as being good friends, it was natural to for them to team-up and start Defence. Both guys are know for their strict sense of style and tight mixing, as well as being diverse DJ's covering different areas of Drum & Bass.
