Fest-O-Rama! mixes films, live music and good times into one kickass festival on the 10th and 11th of April
Turku, Finland based culture collective Zondag is holding a two day fiesta called Fest-O-Rama! in celebration of the anniversary of their short film club Kosmorama and music documentary club Musarama. The event, which is organized in collaboration with music magazine Rumba, takes place in Klubi Turku on the 10th and 11th of April and hosts a variety of hipster friendly treats. The first day of Fest-O-Rama! includes live acts from the crème de la crème of Finnish indie-music, three music documentaries and a whopping eight-DJ-strong lineup.
Havoc-wreaking punk-folkers Jaakko & Jay, indie-electro wonders TV OFF and 1980s synth-pop tinged duo Zebra and Snake are all performing in Fest-O-Rama! The bands were highly ranked in a poll representing the most promising new acts in indie music today compiled by Rumba and radio channel YleX. Joined by these up-and-comers are the folk hiphop experimentalists Harmaa Getto and the brutal 8-bit electro-house onslaught of Huoratron.
The music documentaries screened on the first day of Fest-O-Rama! are also very fine indeed. All Tomorrows Parties is a kaleidoscopic vision of the hugely respected and popular British festival of the same name. Fuck You, Fuck You Very Much tells the story of Leila K, the badly behaving eurodance-starlet of yesterday. Several of Vincent Moons Take-Away Shows are also screened in Fest-O-Rama! Along the years the Parisian has filmed pretty much every notable name in contemporary indie-music in various interesting and suprising settings such as playgrounds, alleyways and abandoned buildings.
While the first day of Fest-O-Rama! is leaning heavily on the party-your-ass-off side of things, the second day is a more chill affair. The program consists of short movies and discussions with film-makers much like a regular Kosmorama evening, except theres more of everything. Two time Jussi-award winning actress Elena Leeve and promising young film director Oskari Sipola are coming for a visit, and they are bringing some of their work with them to be screened in Fest-O-Rama! The program also includes short animation Benigni which the jury of the Tampere Film Festival rewarded with a special citation and Janne Rehmonens graduation work This Is Fakin Finland Perkele about a disillusioned Finnish hockey player living a less glamourous life. Also featured are several short films from abroad that did well on Nordic film festivals.
Fest-O-Rama! is held in Klubi Turku on the 10th and 11th of April. Tickets for the first day cost 7 euros. Advance tickets can be bought from Recordshop X (Levykauppa Äx) in Turku. The music documentary part and the second day of Fest-O-Rama! in its entirety have free admissions. The starting time of both days is 6 p.m. so its advisable to arrive early in case of tickets selling out early.
