About Steve Bug

Germany's minimal dance connaisseur, Steve Bug, started his DJ-career in a small after-hour bar near Ibiza's Space back in 1991 - soon becoming resident DJ in the best club in his hometown Bremen and booked to major German events such as the Love Parade.

In 1993 he releases his first productions on Hamburg-based Superstition Recordings (which were immediately licensed by Risin' High- UK) and in 1996 he founds his own label Raw Elements, followed by a 12" for Felix Da Housecat's Radical Fear imprint.

After "Volksworld", his first LP on Raw Elements, together with the mix compilations "Da Minimal Funk Part 1 & 2" Steve puts the label to sleep in order to set up two brand-new platforms for vinyl releases - Dessous and Poker Flat.

Always crossing the bridges between house and techno with relaxed dignity, showing consequently that less can often be more, Steve Bug is soon to be acclaimed minimal tech-house master and one of the few gems of the innovative German electronic house scene.

Poker Flat establishes itself as the number one source for stripped down futuristic house music with amazing musical diversity and it's name spreads like wildfire with Steve's eternal minimal clubhit "Loverboy" in 1999 - the opener to his album "The Other Day" and the very first release on Poker Flat.

For his second label- the deep house oriented Dessous - Steve shows his passion for late night unhurried house and teams up with Vincenzo for the project "Discowboys". A new mix compilation "Steve Bug presents The Flow" was released on Cocoon Records in 2001 and Steve remixes Robotman, ADNY a.k.a. Alexi Delano, Antonelli Electr. feat. Miss Kittin and others on labels such as Raum...musik, Italic, Turbo Records and his own imprint Poker Flat Recordings.

Steve Bug releases his third album "Sensual" in late 2002 and teams up studiowise with Richie Hawtin for "Low Blow" on Minus as well as with Common Factor for a 12" on Tactile. The 3rd Da Minimal Funk compilation and remixes for Funk D'Void, Jeff Samuel and Freaks follow.

Steve Bug's continues playing with seductive and laid-back funk, dirty retro basslines and random bleeps, incorporates techno electro and basic funk into bare house grooves creating moody minimal and seductive music.

Further new Releases like "Future Retro 101, Traffic Signs (1, 3 ,4 and 5) and Tanzbug with Mathias Tanzmann follow showing Steve's love for the dancefloor and prove that he has an over abundance of funk and minimal melody coursing through his veins.

For his third label, Audiomatique, founded as a playground for modern styles of Techno and House, on only the 4th release Trentemøller's Physical Fraction already scored a big success. This massive Clubhit was the breakthrough for Danish shooting star Anders Trentemøller. The next hit dropped with Martinez' "Schadow Boxing".

The new Steve Bug Single "The Smackman EP" is coming up next on Poker Flat in early 2006, followed by the second edition of "Bugnology".

STEVE BUG NEWS

Poker Flat chief Steve Bug steps up to mix the latest installment in the Fabric series. 'Fabric 37' arrives in November.

For his Fabric mix, Bug promises a close representation of a Bug night in Farringdon: "I wanted to make the Fabric mix atmospheric, with the occasional track where things go off," he says. "When I was doing the 'Bugnology' series, I was trying to compile all the records I was playing at that time. However, the mix for Fabric is much more influenced by my sets there: it's a perfect snapshot of how I play at the club."

Straddling the line between house and techno, the mix features cuts from his Poker Flat/Dessous/Audiomatique catalogues; deep house from Karizma, Matthias Harbour and Brendan Moeller; as well as more minimal offerings from Lee Curtiss, Chloe and Rejected.

Steve Bug (Poker Flat, Berlin) top 10.

01) redshape - unfinished symmetry - present
not brand new anymore, but it stands far out between all these percussive so called minimal tracks. it has a feeling, it has soul and it still blows everyone away. absolutely timeless.

02) eamonn doyle - come down on the music - d1 limited
it seems like this track is built up on a lot of different piano loops and stabs of early detroit and chicago house tracks, but it measures them up perfectly. the arrangement doesn't really do it for me, so i usually play the edit.

03) pawel - gabriel - orphanear
this track builds up on a nice groove and some smooth bell sounds. later on some beautiful strings fulfill this special mixture between deep- and minimal house. something for the early evening or late morning hours.

04) shatraxx - dizzy -sister phonk
banging beats, that may remind you a little bit of "Mole people's witchdoctor" but when the looped vocal samples come in it just turns into a track of its own. works well in loads of situations and it is definitely a track that stands out.

05) deetron - back in - music man
the only beats you'll find are a kick and a hi hat. but deep chords and a synth line escalate you higher and higher until some strings and a deep bass come in and add alot of deepness to this track

06) october - three drops - multivers
this is what i call minimal, it is not overloaded with beats and effects and it has a groove that moves your ass. a little too long for my taste, but since i am a dj... ; )

07) coming soon - yeah - ec records
a lot of times the most simple tracks work the best, and this is one of those. pumping beats, off beat bass and some chords, with a clever arrangement. it brings down the walls in every club i play it in. one of my favorite weapons in the moment.

08) pole - pferd (mole remix) - scape music
weird sounds and noises on a slow house groove. a track for those special quirky moments. beware of this one sound, the frequency is a jeapord to your ears.

09) djinxx & xpansoul - spanish kebab - ovum
i've been playing this for quite some time, but it still sounds fresh. an lfo bass and driving beats take you to higher sphere until a brain screwing sound comes in and let you loose total control...

10) will saul - 3000 ad - simple
starting simply with strings it's the perfect track to start a set in a smaller club with. a deep and melodic track for the deeper moments.
