Paolo Mojo Biography:

Paolo Mojo's sound might be difficult to pin down, but this broad, innovative approach to his craft is making him a name on everyone's lips in 2004. His style incorporates elements of house, funk, techno, breaks, electro, disco and acid. ?I?ve never understood this 'genre' bollocks? he says. "To me the best DJs always select the best bits from a wide range of sounds and put them together in a way that just makes sense to people."

It's certainly making sense to lots of people at the moment. Already well established for his tweaked out sets with the likes of tyrant and Sasha at fabric, and a well thumbed global passport, he's really come to the fore this year thanks to a succession of well received productions on labels such as Alternative Route, Big Love and Sabotage. - and one of the best essential mix debuts ever.

Radio One, Mixmag, DJ Magazine and IDJ have all been quick to cite him as one to watch this year - with his first mix cd 'Heretic' set for an autumn release on Sabotage. Forthcoming remixes and projects with the likes of Brancaccio and Aisher, Alex Neri, Nic Fanciulli and Paul Woolford are set to raise his bar even higher.

He also runs Music Is Freedom and Orcmusic record labels, which have consistently attracted good reviews for the past 2 years. He contributes productions and remixes to both regularly, and sees them as the cornerstone of his music output.

PAOLO MOJO
CURRENT FAVOURITES

In no particular order

Paolo mojo - JMJ / Oosh Records

My first single since 1983 and excuse me for saying so, but I love it. Simple, repetetive and four drops each time hitting harder than the last one... Out next month with a fantastic Wally Lopez Remix on my new label Oosh.

Christian Smith and Jon Selway - Transit Time (Dubfire Remix) / Sino

Playing a lot of Dubfire tracks at the moment but I'll pick this one. Trance bassline and techno drums. Cool vocals too.

Pryda - Muranyi / Pryda
New experimental side of Eric Prydz with a record that works equally well in a variety of diferent sets.

Tracey Thorn - Grand Canyon King Unique Remix / Warner

Bit of a hands in the air end of night singalong, if that's your kind of thing.

Deadset - Fingerburn / Front Room
Previously known as Cass and Mangan, and my favourite track off the new album. Immense.

Simon Baker - Confused / Viva
Viva records keep the quality high with the best Simon Baker tune since Liptrick.

Siobahn Donaghy - Don't Give It Up (Carl Craig Remix) / EMI
Astonishing remix from Mr Craig, back on top top form. I love the way he clearly uses the vocal style to influence the production.

Paolo Mojo and Jim Rivers - Darkplace / Oosh Records

Now then. Sometimes quick and dirty is best. Old School 'Red 2' style keys and a kick harder than an angry mule. Mahoosive.

Williams - Poltergeist / Love Triangle Music
Another producer I cant get enough of at the moment. Pure atmosphere.

Cirez D - Triol Mode / Mouseville?

The new single Horizons is great too, but this demo track is really clever. Hurdy gurdy breakdown - Marc Bolan meets Dave Clarke.

Paolo Mojo (Balance 009 | Pryda)

"One of the brightest stars of the future. Destined for great things."

Sasha, 2005

"A future star of dance.... Possessing a unique sound and we think... a unique talent."

Pete Tong, BBC Radio One 2005

"A style that's impossible to define... Prog? Hardly. Tech house? Not boring enough. It's like trippy twisted acid house but deep and funky. See, I told you - impossible."

DJ Magazine, 2005

"Spellbinding, diverse DJ sets and funk-filled, mesmeric productions that glance back to acid house's glory days. A star very much in the ascendancy right now..... He's going to be casting spells on our dancefloors for many years to come."

IDJ, October 2005

When people hear Paolo Mojo play, they get excited. It's as simple as that. Mashing up genres and styles, cherry picking the best house and techno and all points in between. And he does it with such panache it's hard to resist.

"I've never understood this 'genre' thing" he says. "To me the best DJs always select the best bits from a wide range of sounds and put them together in a way that just makes sense to people."

Rave reviews have followed him round everywhere he goes, leading to him being signed up to compile the latest instalment of the acclaimed 'Balance': EQ's award winning mix series.

Paolo's productions have regularly found favour with Djs the world over, released on labels such as Pryda Friends, Pryda, Alternative Route, Sensei, Tenax, Honchos, Toolroom, CR2 Trax, Saved, Music Is Freedom, Sabotage and of course his own label Oosh!.

Projects in association with Eric Prydz' Pryda label are Paolo's storming techno remake of Pryda's 'Aftermath' and his own instant Italo classic '1983' both released with Eric himself remixing 1983... Incidentally, Paolo is the only non Swede to be involved with Pryda, alongside Henrik B, Stefano Ingrosso, Steve Agnello, Axwell and Eric himself....

As Eric Prydz put it, "yeah... he's the honorary member of the Swedish mafia!"

Through all this Paolo simply shrugs, nothing fazes him. And his talent - which has taken him from Hong Kong to Buenos Aires via regular gigs at Fabric - is all that really matters.
