Multi Cultural Chillout (recorded on 04/2005)

scene.jpg

This mix combines old-world textures with new-world technology,
bridging the gaps between ancient and modern, East and West.
Very nice for relaxed listening and smooth grooving.

cross the borders.

Tracklist and some information I've found in the internet or made up myself :) Just click on the album name for more information, pictures, other audio samples etc...

01. The Natacha Atlas & Marc Eagleton Project: Etheric Messages
(Taken from the Mantra Records release Foretold in the Language of Dreams)

> Ambient, ethereal and somniferous to the point of meditative self-engrossment, Foretold in the Language of Dreams is a welcome but unforeseen deviation in the fascinating career-curve of polycentric Anglo-Asian dance-pop diva (and belly dancer) Natacha Atlas. It's an arid, illusory, impressionistic Arabian sound tapestry partially inspired by Sufis and the writings of Armenian-born philosopher and mystic George Gurdjieff.

02. Najma: Pukar
(Taken from Ark 21/Mondo Melodia release Pukar)

> Najma's swirling, romantic vocals wrap themselves around these songs of yearning and passion in the Ghazal tradition of Pakistan, an ancient form of love poetry. Adeptly fusing a palette of tablas, sitars, light jazz, and discreet new age synthesizers, it is nevertheless her startling voice that is the star of Pukar.

03. Mercan Dede: Nar-I Can
(Taken from the Doublemoon release Nar)

> Turkey-born and Canada-based Mercan Dede intertwines thoughtful down-tempo programming with Sufi devotionals to create an imaginative hybrid that honors both styles. Not your average dance music,"Nar" is filled with impressionistic and moody soundscapes colored with Dede's ney (flute), jazz bass, violin, ambient electronics and, occasionally, devotional lyrics.

04. TJ Rehmi: Lone Rider
(Taken from the Dharma Moon release The Warm Chill)

> Rehmi's fifth album, The Warm Chill, is an innovative blend of electronic breakbeats and Eastern melodies fused with chill guitar. It incorporates drum and bass against an exotic chill out landscape. Lone Rider is a beautiful dubby tune to yah your day away.

05. State of Bengal vs Paban das Baul: Kali
(Taken from the Real World release Tani Tani)

> The Bauls are India's divine fools, roving bands of illiterate, mystic-musicians who own only the clothes on their backs and a battered patchwork quilt. They sing for their supper and then move on. London-based DJ Sam Zaman (aka State of Bengal) encouraged Paban Das Baul, who is accustomed to interpreting 500-year-old texts, to write his own lyrics for the first time for this special project. The singer sounds organic and relaxed amid Zaman's sitar-and-bass-heavy, snare-driven chillout milleu.

06. Lumin: Vchera Minah
(Taken from the Hearts of Space / World Class release Hadra)

> Vchera Minah originates from Bulgaria and Macedonia. Singer Irina Mikhailova is an enchantress who wails in a voice that fuses her Kazakh and Russian roots, with eastern European vocal styles and Middle Eastern effects. Sometimes singing in Bulgarian, her native Kazakh, or her own hybrid dialect, she creates the sound of ecstasy and lament, often simultaneously. While rooted in folk music, Hadra is a hallucinatory blend, laced to trance grooves and melodies that reach across the heavens and into the soul. New Lumin album is finished now and is soon to be released.

07. Bobi Céspedes: Yambu Rock
(Taken from the Six Degrees release Rezos)

> Bobi Céspedes is a singer, composer and percussionist as well as a priestess in the Yoruba-Lucumi spiritual tradition. Her solo debut couples deep Afro-Cuban and Yoruban grooves with one of the most distinctive and compelling voices in world music. Yambu is a form of the Cuban rumba rhythm that mirrors the chase between the rooster and the hen. The lyrics talk about the process of Yoruba divination and the profound spiritual strenght that can be found in a simple coconut and clear water.

08. Gaudi feat. Alessandro Coppola: Ci Fice lu Mundu
(Taken from the Interchill release Bass, Sweat & Tears)

> Bass, Sweat & Tears is an organic fusion of dub and nu-beat with a global mix of influences. It is inspired by native cultures from around the world and takes the listener on a journey from Burkina Faso to Iran, Pakistan and Northern India; from Papua New Guinea and the Amazon rain forest to Italy and Spain. In Ci Fice lu Mundu, this top dub producer from Italy collaborates with a singer from Italian band Nidi d'Arac. A tradional chant from Salento in southern Italy which tells of the creation of the world and compares it's beauty to that of the lover.

09. Gator Dash: Your Love
(Taken from the Montera Music release Back to My Family)

> Gator Dash aka Thomas Henry was born in Haiti, but is living in France now and runs his own bar there. Your Love is a beautiful dubby love song for someone who makes him feel so fine. His debut album is produced with Toires, a highly-acclaimed french producer who has mostly concentrated on North African music on his two artist albums and one remix album.

10. Fifth Sun: Zaman el Seba
(Taken from the M.E.L.T. 2000 release Sout el Soil)

> Majestetic strings and powerful vocals provided by Fifth Sun, who are classical Egyptian star and renowned kanoon (Egyptian harp) player Amir Abdel Magid and talented producer/engineer Greg Hunter who has worked with The Orb, Sub Surfing, Killing Joke, Crowded House and Paul McCartney amongst others. These two have also collaborated earlier as Alien Soap Opera.

11. Abyssinia Infinite feat. Ejigayehu "Gigi" Shibabaw: Gole
(Taken from the World Nettwork release Zion Roots)

> Ethiopian soul music by world famous singer Gigi, produced by her husband Bill Laswell, going all the way back to the zion roots. Gole is a very old traditional chant that is sung half in Amharic and half in an older language called Agewña. It's normally reserved for special occasions like holidays and weddings. This music reflects the power of ancient spirits in the heart of Africa, where it all started for the whole of humanity.

12. Sevda: Veil of Illusion (Makyo's "Behind the Veil" Mix)
(Taken from the Dakini Records release Nada Masala vol.2)

> Great hypnotic ethereal dance track from Japan's top producer Makyo, fractalized out of Sevda's Veil of Illusion. Makyo goes off the remix deep-end, starting with the final drum groove of Sevda's track and taking it in entirely new directions, deep and dubby. This track features the heavenly vocals of Nona Kalra.

13. Sevara Nazarkhan: Gazli
(Taken from the Real World release Yol Bolsin)

> Yol Bolsin (Where Are You Going?) is the debut of 25-year-old Uzbeki singer, songwriter and doutar player Sevara Nazarkhan. It combines the rich musical tradition of her Central Asian country and fuses it with the modern sounds of noted French-Algerian producer Hector Zazou. A pop star in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, Nazarkhan has a soaring, conservatory-trained voice that conveys myriad emotions with range and an intonation enriched with deft shading. Gazli takes the mix to a soft and beautiful end.

Eilen sain tietää että soitan la 18.6. Kulttuurikeskus Caisan Cross Borders klubilla.

Hyvä setti, näitä monenmaalaisia hyviä biisejä on vaikea metsästää.
