A fine synthesis of nature and technology
DJ Soma outside the chillout tent during his Sunday morning set @ Konemetsä 2005
Electrorganic global grooves for dancing and pleasant listening
File Under: Ambient/Chillout/Dub/World/Electronica
In his sets tradional elements from different cultures are often fused with ultra-modern western beats and programming to create a delicious and adventurous mix that blends musical genres as well as geographical locations. All the music is selected with an ear on quality and mixed together to crete a poetic journey in the realm of music. His influences vary from his childhood exposure on classical music, jazz and progressive rock to his over 10 years enthusiasm on almost every kind of electronic music, from deep ambient soundscapes through downtempo, dub and broken beats to sophisticated club grooves and endorphine-evoking dancefloor pearls.
"Even electronic music's most-ardent fans understand that the ghost in the machine isn't conjured as a soulful or spiritual vibe. That comes by bringing in elements from more traditional styles." - Tad Hendrickson
"Transforming and mixing all these traditions is a way of preserving them, making them available to young listeners, and those in distant lands. Traditions are very important. If not, then all we have is just modern, modern, modern, modern. That's fine. We have to live with it, but there should be a time to say, 'This is where we come from. This is something that has been existing for thousands of years.'" - adapted from the interview of DJ Cheb I Sabbah about his new album La Kahena
