Record Votes Decide World's Favourite DJs
The results are in, and 2004's Top 100 DJs Poll has been by far the biggest ever. All records have been smashed with 91,481 of you casting your votes - that's nearly 30,000 more votes than last year!
The truly global reach of DJ culture has once again been highlighted with votes coming in from 149 different countries. From Aruba to Iraq, Kazakhstan to Guam, little more proof is needed that the many forms of dance music and the DJs that play it all to hundreds of thousands of clubbers every week are more popular than ever.
Tiësto Does the Treble
For a record-breaking third year in a row, the Dutch master Tiësto holds the number one spot. There really is no disputing this man's position in the hearts of clubbers across the globe. Previously, Paul Oakenfold and Carl Cox have both won the award twice, but Tiësto has taken things to a whole new level with his 25,000 capacity stadium gigs and DJing at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games to a TV audience in excess of 4.5 billion. There really is no other individual who could claim the title of Top 100 DJ 2004, and we congratulate Tiësto for his amazing achievement, and our Poll's first ever 'treble'!
Top 100 Trends
As the reach of the Poll spreads into new areas of the world, competition for the100 places has become fiercer than ever. The USA provided most votes this year, closely followed by the UK, Holland and then South American dance hotspot Uruguay. Growing dance scenes in countries like China and increased internet access in Eastern Europe will certainly have an effect on future polls too. Some established names have been squeezed out in '04 by fresh young DJs, many of them Dutch trance jocks, highlighting the ongoing passionate voting that comes from Tiësto's home country.
