S.P.Y bio

Moving to London from São Paulo eleven years ago, S.P.Y was quick to establish himself within the UK drum+bass scene. After six months of working with only basic equipment, S.P.Y’s natural talent for production saw his first ever release signed to Metalheadz in 2005, with a release on Hospital’s Medschool imprint soon following in 2006. S.P.Y began collaborating with artists such as Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Kasra and DJ Marky. In 2009 S.P.Y released his first solo EP on Marcus Intalex’s label Soul:R and had releases on many other labels including Digital Soundboy and Innerground.

The following years were immensely successful for S.P.Y, with Friction including five S.P.Y tracks on his MoS compilation and Andy C featuring four tracks on ‘Nightlife’. Proving his production quality and consistency in 2010 / 2011, S.P.Y delivered standout releases on Ram, Metalheadz, Critical, Shogun and Spearhead – Most notably the anthemic ‘By Your Side’. S.P.Y also took on high-profile remixes for the likes of Deadmau5, Claude von Stroke, LTJ Bukem, Chase & Status, Delilah and Zinc ft. Miss Dynamite, with S.P.Y’s own personal re-lick of Zero 7’s ‘In The Waiting Line’ becoming a signature in his live sets.

Signing to Hospital in 2012, his debut LP, ‘What The Future Holds’ was released to critical acclaim. The LP not only received significant support from fellow artists and topped online sales charts, but was also awarded the coveted ‘Best Album’ at the annual 2012 Drum & Bass Arena awards. S.P.Y backed up this release with a relentless tour schedule of Australia, the United States, Canada, Russia, Asia, New Zealand and Europe.

S.P.Y’s skills behind the decks rival his studio talents and he delights fans with an educated blend of old school classics and fresh new beats. Always one to stay true to his roots, S.P.Y has a unique ability to bring his trademark underground sound to a worldwide audience. Alternating between beautiful, orchestral, musical sets and dark, rolling mixes, S.P.Y captures the emotions of the crowd. Whether he is playing at a high-profile festival or an intimate club show, S.P.Y always delivers.

In 2013 S.P.Y was again busy touring the world, playing at major festivals such as Tomorrowland, Global Gathering and Electric Daisy Carnival. He delivered successful remixes of James Zabiela’s ‘Perseverance’, Chris Malinchak’s ‘So Good To Me’ and Five Knives’s ‘All Fall Down’ on Red Bull Records. In addition to these achievements, S.P.Y was also selected to write, in collaboration with London Elektricity and Diane Charlemagne, the theme song for the 2014 Street Child World Cup. The track ‘I Am Somebody’ has helped to generate awareness and bring a new interest to Street Child World Cup, advocating for street children’s rights worldwide.

Moving into 2014 and S.P.Y is taking us ‘Back to Basics’ with his second LP. Released in two parts over the coming months, ‘Back to Basics’ draws inspiration from the deeper, darker sounds of drum+bass, and features collaborations with Total Science, Rene La Vice, and vocalists Diane Charlemagne, Grimm and DRS MC.

If any D+B artist can truly claim to be the “producers producer” then Carlos S.P.Y surely has a good case. If the comments on this album by his luminaries are anything to go by: "One of my fave producers" says DJ Hype, "Carlos back to his filthy best!" say Total Science, "There's only one S.P.Y” says Doc Scott.

Logistics bio

Signing exclusively to Hospital in 2004, Logistics worked solidly on creating masterpieces such as “Together”, “Spacejam”, ”The Trip” and “Release The Pressure”. Logistics quickly became known for bridging the gap between liquid funk, which, until then had often been a lacklustre sub-genre and a more exciting, dance floor orientated variety of Drum + Bass. It’s Logistics’ influence that has been picked up by the major DJs in the scene such as Andy C and Friction, and his anthemic creations have contributed greatly to the modern Hospital sound.

Logistics’ debut LP “Now More Than Ever“ was released in the autumn of 2006; a hugely ambitious project, restraining no less than 24 speaker busting tunes beneath its calm exterior and soon became known as a classic. In 2007 Logistics also submitted his “Medical History” and 18 months on, having scooped “Best Album” at the 1xtra Bass awards for his debut album, Logistics dropped his second long player “Reality Checkpoint“. Rammed full of genre-bending goodness it was heralded as a glimpse of the future with dubstep and electronica influences fusing together with the anthemic Logistics sound.

2008 saw the Luke Skywalker of the ”Future Sound Of Cambridge” drop the massive track “Cosmonaut” and feature on several awesome collabs with Commix and brother Nu:Tone, keeping sub basses across the land pounding for the rest of the year. Having been locked away deep in the Degobah system making tracks, 2009 was time for Logistics to unleash the full power of the force with the onomatopeic “Crash Bang Wallop“, smacking dancefloors and stereos hard.

Throughout 2011 – 12 Logistics has been back in the studio, producing both under Logistics and his Nu:Logic moniker with brother Nu:Tone as the pair ready themselves to unleash some new material in 2013.

MC Texas bio

Texas started his musical journey writing lyrics back in 2003. Inspired in no small part by the UK garage scene, it was because of artists elsewhere such as Warren G and Stevie Hyper D that Texas first developed the hunger for a microphone. Many a bedroom rinse-out later, Texas had secured his first residency, a weekly radio show called High Grade on grandtheftaudio.co.uk alongside schoolboy friends DJ Reevzy and MC Akespeare. The exposure was only bound to lead to bigger and better things, and in the years that followed Texas proceeded to stake his claim as one of the brightest up and coming talents in his hometown of Bristol. The trail blazed in the early stages of his career culminated in 2006 and 2007, when Texas was selected to be Hospitality resident and the latest addition to Bristol’s Ambush Family drum & bass crew respectively. Bookings from all across the country soon rolled in, and by the time Loadstar emerged onto the scene with RAM records in 2010, they had an easy-decision in making Texas their personal mc and host of choice.

Texas comes equipped with the sort of stage presence, content, and delivery that stand out in small intimate clubs, venues such as Fabric, or large open-air festivals. These attributes have seen Texas work alongside the biggest names in the game, from Andy C to Eksman and everybody in between. He has the type of flows to sit comfortably anywhere on the drum & bass spectrum - whether hosting beat-laden tech sets, complimenting liquid rollers, or hyping up the energy levels for jump-up, it’s all in the repertoire. Such is his versatility, Texas can also boast to be a genuine performer on other tempos. Testament to this claim are the excellent vocals on tracks from Mediks and Zanetic (Au), slick compilation work from the garage/dubstep collective Sub-Universe, as well as fine grime contributions made to fellow Ambush Family team member Carasel MC’s much praised debut album Progression. It is precisely these accomplishments in other genres which make Texas much more than simply a top-level drum & bass MC.

A pleasure to be around both on- and off-stage, the future is indeed bright for this star of the UK music scene. Constantly writing lyrics, striving for improvement, and driven on by fellow Ambush Family members Carasel, Stanza, N3gus, Kaydan, Phantom, and Akespeare, expect Texas to have you ballin’ for the ‘ricochet-ricochet’ at a dance near you soon!
