Sean Tyas (Armada, Discovery / USA)

A New York native now residing in Switzerland, Sean Tyas has been one of THE buzz names in trance circles this past year. And with good reason too; he's cut out his own niche in the highly competitive production arena to create countless hit tracks, remixes and bootlegs that bring to the dancefloor a mix of melodic harmony, driving groove and cutting edge production techniques.

The distinctive Sean Tyas sound has captured the imagination of the trance community with the highest echelons of the trance elite such as Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond, Judge Jules and Sander van Doorn all amongst the heavyweight playlist support. Sean also has legions of fans at grass roots level, from message boards, budding DJs and radio listeners, a fact proven by his meteoric rise up the ranks of popular polls such as the DJ Magazine Top 100 (New Entry at #54), TheDJList.com and TranceAddict.com, as well as being awarded 'Best New Face', #3 Best Remixer and #5 Best Producer at the Trance Awards and Mixmag placing Sean in their Top 10 of 'Best New DJs'.

It was in 2006 that Sean Tyas first started to make waves in the trance scene, winning the much hyped Spinnin' Records remix competition for his rework of Sander van Doorn 'Punk'd'. Quickly snapped up by the leading Discover label, his first solo release exceeded best expectations with the energetic and euphoric sounds of 'Lift' becoming one of the biggest releases the year. Further big tracks, remixes and compilation appearances were never far behind, with Sean having notable remixing success reworking tracks from Above & Beyond, Agnelli & Nelson, Vincent de Moor and Bobina to name but a few.

Undeniably a genius behind the controls in a studio, Sean Tyas has also translated his technical talents and popular sounds into one of the most in demand DJ sets in club land today. Demand for Sean Tyas the DJ has soared on the back of both his production success and show stopping performances.

In the UK and Ireland Sean Tyas has built up a solid fanbase at major events such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Ministry Of Sound / Gallery and Inside Out, while elsewhere in Europe he's also made his mark on many famous stages, appearing on every Godskitchen Global Gathering festival in 2009, the Trance Energy, Dance Valley and Mystery Land festivals in Holland, Monday Bar cruises in Sweden, Judgement Sundays in Ibiza, plus east European club shows and festivals. The picture is just as complete in other continents, with Sean Tyas touring North and South America many times each year, as well as leading shows in Asia and the forthcoming Trance Energy Tour of Australia and New Zealand.

2008 saw many more trance bombs dropped from the Tyas camp, including a collaboration project with Armin van Buuren titled 'Intricacy', the chart topping 'Somethin's Up' with Simon Patterson, as well as massive remixes of Inertia 'The System', Nish 'Blue Sunshine', Ben Gold 'Life' and three big CD projects including 'Trance World Vol 3' on Armada. The 2009 Tyas release schedule kicks off at a pace, with the new singles 'Melbourne' and 'Rule Book' released on Discover, 'Seven Weeks' on Doorn and remixes for Signum and an Anjunabeats project, plus a coveted BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix broadcast in February.

Sebastian Brandt (Armada / SWE)

Sebastian Brandt
Lately, it seems all the magic comes from the upper side of Europe. It’s the cold and beautiful Scandinavia that delivers a big part of the best trance beats at the moment. One of the producers to capture them is Sebastian Brandt. Despite the young age of only 20, this Swedish producer has managed to leave his footprints on trance history. With a clear, promising future ahead of him and plenty of inspiration to produce another range of fine tunes, Sebastian Brandt isn’t even close to the top of his curve.

His one true passion
Sebastian: “When I was about four years old I started collecting these Swedish compilations CD’s called ‘Absolute Dance’. I think that was the first small step of building a deep interest of electronic dance music. I didn’t really listen to any EDM when I was six or seven, but a few years later I remember hearing a couple of tunes on the radio. One of them was ‘Safri Duo – Played Alive’. It was one of those tracks that really made me realize Trance music was slowly becoming my one true passion in life.“ And so began the story of producer/DJ Sebastian Brandt. While most teenagers spend their time collecting football cards and playing tag, Sebastian began producing his first loops and beats. Sebastian: “I started making music when I was about 10 years old. After a couple of years I joined some online forums and started sharing my music with others there, which helped me a lot. Getting feedback from others was really important for me.” It helped him developing his skills and gave him the confidence he needed to eventually introduce his sound to the crowds. However, it wasn’t until 2006 that his first solo record would see the light.

Going solo
A melodic trancer called ‘Mysteria’ was the official first Sebastian Brandt release. ‘Mysteria’ already had the typical Brandt sound, that can still be heard in his current productions. But more so, was it Selu Vibra that put Sebastian’s name on the map. He teamed up with fellow-country producer Ludvig Holm, who produces under the Algarve alias, and hit the studio. The outcome was ‘Divine’; a sweet, uplifting trance anthem that was one of the biggest trance tunes that year, 2006. ‘Stargazing’ was the follow-up to this massive success, and also received a more than warm welcome. Another project Sebastian had success with was Under Sun, with Marcus Schössow as his producing mate. They released the lovely ‘Capoeira’ and ‘Captured’, both on Armada’s A State of Trance imprint. But after 2007, the main focus was on Sebastian’s solo career. And it’s been a good career so far. His ‘epic, danceable and euphoric’ style is transmitted through a variety of tracks, flowingly mixed together. Sebastian :“Mainly, my sets today are built from slower melodic trance up to the 140 uplifting stuff. I guess what makes me special is that I try to play tracks that others don’t, which in the end works really well for me.” And not only does it work for him, it also works for the crowd. Sebastian is one of the most requested Scandinavian DJ’s, and has played in numerous venues around the globe.

A way back to the music
‘So Cold’, ‘Technology’, ‘Serenade’ and numerous banging remixes with the Sebastian sound written all over have enriched the trance scene over the past years. Sebastian may be fully focused on music, he’s also wise enough to have a back-up plan. Sebastian: “I actually dropped out 2nd year in high school because I didn’t feel it was something for me. But last year I made the mature decision of going back to school, so at the moment I’m studying half time and producing/DJ’ing half time.” Afraid to run out of inspiration, or give up on music, sure isn’t cluttering his mind. “I don’t think there is a chance in the world I would get tired of EDM. This music has always found its way back naturally to me.”
Stay tuned to find out what Sebastian has in stores for the future. Cause if one thing’s obvious, it’s that it is a bright looking one.

Joonas Hahmo (Anjunadeep)

"Hahmo’s lovingly skewed take on the prog-trance sound is something to embrace. With it’s almost OTT bouncing bass, popping riffs and increasingly identifiable sound set-up, ‘Cocktail Bar’ is another example of why this man should be ruling! Slipping on the remixers slippers, Ben Macklin does a comparably fine job, twisting and pressing the track into a jumping, housed framework."

---

Only 24-year old, Joonas Hahmo has done this and that…. We don’t really want to bore you with all that usual stuff most artist biographies are full of. Honestly. We could briefly mention (just to pay respect for classical art of hyping) that Joonas really did play at such massive events as Love Parade and Ruhr in Love, and got his tracks present on MTV, as well as played around the globe by such DJs as Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, James Zabiela, Ferry Corsten and Hernan Cattaneo. And yes, Joonas is also the guy behind such succesful trance acts as Alt+F4 and Avanto, he has produced chart topping single tracks for platinum selling pop artists and co-produced new material for no less than Darude.

But all these great achievements are just consequences of strong feeling that lives in Joonas’ heart. This feeling is called passion. Passion for electronic music. That is the key for success of Joonas Hahmo sound. Because, despite of all merits, sound is what matters. Music attracts.

Unique. Fresh. Electrifying. These would be the 3 main characteristics for Joonas Hahmo productions. Combining Trance, Electro, House and Progressive in one awesome melting pot, Joonas cooks a delicious new product for clubbers all around the world – crossover style, which cannot be defined and locked. This happy, joyful summer sound with Ibiza twist, yet not quite House, but definitely not Trance anymore, this music has only one acceptable name: Joonas Hahmo sound. And this new sound appears to be the next big thing in the world of dance music.

Remember the pioneers of trance, like Armin and Paul Oakenfold? Well, we think we have a new wave pioneer right here. We believe in that because Joonas doesn’t follow any common paths, as a producer nor as a DJ. He makes these paths for others. Constantly seeking for something new, being on the edge of musical development and breaking the limits to produce an outstanding track. Hard work, extreme talent and burning passion is what Joonas Hahmo is all about.

MarkusS (NorthernPalz, l i Q u i d)

This man is a House Lover from start to end. He grew up listening lots of music (disco and black music mostly), because his father used to travel alot and always bought music home from his trips. One day some of those cassettes and vinyls had music from artists such Coldcut, KLF, Innercity and Marshall Jefferson to name few. Markus was captured with that kind of music in a second. He was a 12 year old and his passion for music started growing. Housemusic was the thing that really captured this little fellow's attention though he might not have known what it was called back then.

After that, all kinds from deep and funky to speedgarage was popping into his record collection. 1993 at the age 14 he started playing records at the local youth disco and later on that year his best friend bought a pair of decks. Next 2 years went on practising dj skills everynight and at the same time Markus and his mates were arraging illegal partys in their home town! As a result of those partys he got first real gig in a club. This was at age of seventeen! Year 1998 he got slot to play in afterparty in a club called Pussy Club (Helsinki) and that's where it all really started.

During that time he was using the name Dj Maas and his sound and style was little bit faster and on the harder edge. Dj:ing took him to many different citys and to many different clubs, partys and raves in his home country. He was also co-promoting and had a residency in a club called Hooverdamn! A club which had a tribute track made by British jock called Chris C from Mohawk Rec. However, somewhere during 2001 that sound wasn't evolving in the way that Markus wanted . A new and intresting sound was called wet'n'hard which was made famous at that time by artist such Timo Maas, Corvin Dalek, Oliver Klein to name drop a few. It was a mix of progressive-, tech- and deephouse. Also his name changed to Markus S. During the same year, his residency at Dive started and that lasted till year 2003 when club was closed.

During those years Markus met Joonas Hahmo who ended up to make a theme song for Dive. At this time Markus was heading musically back to the funkier form of house, which he had always carried in his heart. He started playing at Cafe Europa's Club Attic, monthly every wednesday and then later on every third friday. When it comes to making music, Markus had made some tracks just for own fun before and had done bootlegs to be used for own dj sets. It was early winter 2004 when Markus and Joonas ended up working in the studio together. Little bit later Northern Palz was born. Under that name they have made some banging remixes and also produced two tracks for one of the leading artist in Finland. Currently Markus is playing around 6-8 gigs in a month and spendig time in the studio to come up with gems to be reveald to the world. As a dj he is waiting for a chance to open his recordbag for the people on the dancefloor everywhere!
