Amato Distribution bites the dust!?
Reports surfaced that UK-based Amato Distribution, one of the most respected independent distributors in the UK and across the globe, will be closing their doors and filing for liquidation.
Over the years, Amato has been providing global marketing and distribution services across physical and digital retailers, covering all audio and visual formats including CD, vinyl, digital downloads and DVD. The company currently oversee more than 100 labels of various sizes and genres, including Border Community, Eskimo, Playhouse, Crosstown Rebels, BPitch Control, Kompakt and many others.
Trash Menagerie has the inside scoop:
"TM has confirmed reports from those in house at Amato, that come next week, they will be closing their doors and filing for liquidation. [...] Many of my friends and acquaintances will be struck hard by this loss, my thoughts go out to you, and to the 50 + dedicated Amato employees that have been instrumental in keeping the art of vinyl alive."
So is this the final nail in the coffin for vinyl?
While this type of news (if true) is certainly not a surprise, there's no doubt that the demise of Amato will have a huge impact on the global dance music scene and the already slumping vinyl sales.
More info to follow.
