Jo's story began in 1991 when after attending many of the early raves and illegal parties she noticed a distinct lack of female DJs. As a massive fan of this exciting new music that was sweeping the nation, Jo decided to buy some decks and started mixing
While working in the Gaultier shop in London's Soho, Jo made her first mix tapes and gave them to friends and customers to gauge their response. The reactions were better than expected and her first gigs quickly followed at fashion after-show parties and in no time at all at club events.
Jo was given a chance to play at Londons legendary after-hours party Trade at Turnmills. Seizing the opportunity she smashed the club, blending a mixture of deep house and techno and as a result was given a residency that lasted three years. The gig was the basis for her winning DJ Magazines highly coveted DJ of the Year Award (she is still the only female DJ to have ever won this award).
Jo has been spinning in Ibiza since 1993 playing at Amnesia, Privilege, Space as well as infamous secret beach and villa parties. Her NastyDirtySexyMusic parties held in Ibiza were ultra-underground, word-of-mouth affairs with the ethos heavily geared towards cutting edge music. The success of the NDSM parties saw it become We Love Sundays at Space, introducing the electro-house sound to an unsuspecting Ibiza crowd.
Jo's international credibility has led her to work alongside iconic figures in the world of music and fashion. She has DJd at The Pet Shop Boys end of tour party, a Grace Jones concert, Skunk Anansie's album launch party, Jamiroqaui's South African tour parties, as well as at fashion events for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Michiko Koshinos and Julian Macdonald.
This is Jo's second visit to Pussy club. Her set in the legendary Hesperia club wowed the Helsinki crowd, so we are looking forward to this one!

Having been involved in the club scene for several years, Milla Lehto got bitten by the DJ bug in 2000. In the summer of 2002 she launched her own monthly club night at Ever in Helsinki. Milla has also secured a residency at the legendary Pussy Club and it's 'little sister' Moist, which is the only finnish club that is hosted solely by female resident dj's.
She likes to play bottom heavy house music with a healthy dose of breakbeats and electro-esque sounds thrown in for good measure. As well as being a member of the blooming Break That House -collective, Milla spins regularly at the most famous clubs throughout the country.
Having been voted for the Best Upcoming DJ of 2003 in the finnish Platinum Club Awards, she is considered to be one of the leading ladies in the Finnish clubland.

To celebrate Taru, Aki & Pussy's birthday and the arrival of "Queen of Ibiza - Smokin' Jo" Orkidea will play a special old school balearic warm up set from 21:00 till 23:00. Club Unity head honcho has played almost every Pussy birthday party since 1999 and even played Taru's 30th b-day ten years ago in Lepakko Tallibaari.
DJing with Chemical Brothers in Berlin, performing at Gatecrasher and Ministry of Sound in UK, recording for DJ Tiesto's label, promoting Renaissance events, entertaining Jean-Paul Gaultier, remixing Nightwish, playing sixteen hour sets and having gigs from Ibiza to Tokyo... 17 pumpin' years behind and still going strong. Peruspussylaatua. En pitänyt hirveästi kyllä Smoking Jo:n ralleista, Milla oli huomattavasti parempi.
Kakku oli suklaista, onneksi en istunut aivan sen päälle loppuillasta. Van Houtenin kaakao puski siitä aika napakasti läpi.
Nyt pitäisi vain sada taiottua tuo sade v************uuun, kun kämmäsin tulemalla pyörällä enkä katsonut ajoissa testbediä...

Hyvä meininki oli, porukkaa just sopivasti ja kaikki hyvällä tuulella. Onnistunut ilta kaikin puolin. 
Omaan makuuni meni juuri toisinpäin tuo settien paremmuus järjestys kuin topiikin aloittajalla, eli vaikka Millan setti oli ok, niin vähän puuttui vielä sitä menoa ja meininkiä jota sitten Smoking Jo tarjosi. Loppua kohden musiikki minusta vain parani ja vika tunti oli parasta ja tanssittavimpaa musiikkia tänä iltana, imo.

Komppaan! Vika tunti oli aivan mahtava ja en malttanut millään pysyä pois tanssilattialta!
Millan setti oli välillä vähän tylsää mun makuun, vähän liian tasapaksua. Kiva kun tällä kertaa dtm ei pakkautunut liian täyteen vaan tilaa oli tanssiakin! Alkuillan booli oli kiva yllätys.Miinusta ihmisille, jotka käyvät kiinni törkeästi. Ei ole kauhean kohteliasta koskea toisiin ihmisiin tosta noin vaan.

Happy birthday Pussy eau de Club and Taru!
I had quite an interesting night behind the camera; one of my CF-cards seized working five minutes after I had got done shooting Orkidea and a couple of dozen pretty nice photos were lost. As if that wasn't enough the AF of one of my lenses jammed, I had to shoot with MF for quite a while, the receiver & the transmitter of my flash unit started playing tricks on me and... and... somehow even all this didn't ruin my mood.
The event itself was like Pussy's events always are - pure quality. I'm already waiting for the next one!
