As If releasing consistently good music, Djing the world & fronting the worldwide MN2S Masterclass radio show wasnt enough The Jinks have decided to embrace yet another challenge Their own label. Jinks INC, launching in September, will be an outlet not only for their own top-drawer productions but also the work of many of the scenes champions. The first release, out on 3rd September, is entitled Up To You by The Jinks themselves. This dance floor destroyer featuring the vocal talents of Alma Horton (of 4 Heros Hold it Down fame) has already got support from CJ Mackintosh, Sir Piers & Timmy Vegas
Never content to rest on the laurels, the duo has 3 other singles and a remix for Swank Recordings coming out this summer:
Their new single Like Music on MN2S can only reinforce the notion that The Jinks have been tipped by all and sundry for superstardom (M8 Dec 2005). With incredible mixes from Hot New producers Trackheads the track is sure to receive heavy rotation this Summer with early support from the likes of Osunlade, Luis Radio & Charles Spencer.
Spaced Out on Soulfunk Digital with The Jinks very own Dan 1 on vocal duties, with great mixes from Reelsoul, Danny Clarke & Seven Hill soul this track already has fans in Joey Negro, Soularis Jay J & Richard Earnshaw
Brazilla (Already played on Radio 1 by Gilles Peterson) on Scotlands legendary Sole Music imprint. Spen, Hardsoul & Master Kev all oving this one!
And now the history lesson: In December 2004, The Jinks (Chris Gau& Dan Savidge) made their return to the decks after a 2-year sabbatical spent building their studio. They immediately made their mark, winning the Mixmag Future Heroes DJ competition in December 2004 and taking 2nd place in International DJ's Raw Talent competition in January 2005. In the Judge's notes for IDJ's Raw Talent Competition, The Jinks' mixtape was described as "one of the most original we have ever received".
Chris and Dan are old friends from way back. Having discovered a mutual love for all things funky, the pair kicked off their vinyl addiction over a decade ago. Before long they were playing at clubs all around London, supporting DJs like Terry Farley (Junior Boys Own) and Mark Rae (Grand Central Records). In the late nineties they headed for the north, Chris to Manchester and Dan to Leeds. They made an impact in both cities, setting up a pirate radio station in Manchester (Twist FM) and DJing at some of the Norths top nights, rocking dance floors with such legends as Marshall Jefferson, MJ Cole and Norman Jay OBE. During their residency at Rough Hill, a weekly Funk night in Manchester, The Jinks began their first foray into the world of production, re-editing classic funk and disco records for their DJ sets.
Seeing the ferocity with which punters lapped up these Jinks remixes, they realized the potential for creating their own original dance floor destroyers. From that moment on they knew where their days were heading - a lifetime of honing the closely guarded secrets of beat juggling and dance music production.
Having conquered the North, the pair returned South for a Friday night residency at London's now legendary Bar Rumba. After rocking Rumba for 2 years, the pair wanted a fresh challenge, and decided to dedicate their time and energy to production. They have since built up a formidable recording studio The Monet Pit in Ladbroke Grove. Situated right in the heart of West Londons thriving broken beats scene, The Jinks have been hiding away, biding their time in their secret laboratory, cooking up eclectic and funky sets and building fat grooves for their publics ears
As well as playing all around the world from Hong Kong to Dubai to Switzerland, The Jinks currently hold residencies at Soho, Bristol, and at MN2Ss massive night at The End, playing with Heavyweights like Kenny Dope, Joey Negro & Mousse T. They are also the hosts of MN2S Masterclass show, a monthly radio programme syndicated worldwide check it out on:
And now, when it seemed that The Jinks couldnt get any busier, they launch their very own label imprint, Jinks Inc Records. With 3 chart topping releases already under their belt, the boys are looking hot for 2008. These include a collaboration with Phillys finest Alma Horton, as well as projects with Zodiac and Radhika. Remixers drafted in so far have included Tiger Stripes and DJ Spen, and things look set to rocket in the next 12 months!
