Every last Thursday of the month, the disco sparkles with starlight. Club Anvil first saw the light of the strobe in February 2000. Established because the club scene of Helsinki did not really offer an alternative to house & whatnot, a club where you could dance, yet enjoy some wonderful pop tunes.

Offering a touch of fantasy once a month, it took off gloriously, catering to the tastes of the gothic, the would-be-retro-futurist-revivalist, the indie-y and the, well, the fun-loving anyone out on a Thursday night.

Romantic in attitude, dreaming, pretty, and yet so full of thought and emotion - Anvil is going stronger than ever! We've seen a live group performing, and have a few tricks up our sleeves... Welcome to enjoy the open atmosphere of Club Anvil!

Your hosts & resident DJs are Brenque (a living legend, they say) and Lady Sannox. The website is managed by Maxine, one of the original hosts.

The music. The sounds which define the soul. The medium of thought and emotion.

Club Anvil is about the stylish and the emotional. Pretentious and profound, hand in hand. The artificial sounds which still form images and dreams of heartache, of longing. Synthetic. All pop.

So we go back into the early eighties - the age of the New Romantic, and of the desolate Futurist. Visage, Heaven 17, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode.

From the seventies: the drama kings and queens - Bowie, Roxy Music - and the mad scientists - Eno, Kraftwerk. Much later, after the fires of '77, the scene starts to set. The New Wave - Clash, early Ultravox, Japan. The gloomy beauty of the gothic - Siouxie, Cure, Sisters of Mercy.

Also, we explore the pop towards this day. Smiths. Stone Roses. Pulp. More Bowie. New Order. Placebo. Mansun. And the new, delightfully vibrant synthpop - Ladytron, Iris, and more.
